Yesterday, I had the honor of participating in the 2026 NYU Coaching & Technology Summit Alumni Showcase.

While I wasn’t able to be there in person, I was incredibly grateful for the opportunity to join virtually and share something that is deeply personal to me: the story behind Own Your Next.

A few years ago, I heard the words no one wants to hear:

“You have cancer.”

What followed was a journey that challenged every part of my life. And while I was fortunate to have incredible support during treatment, I quickly realized that survivorship comes with its own set of challenges.

When treatment ends, everyone celebrates that you’ve survived.

But many women are left asking:

“Now what?”

Who am I now?
How do I rebuild my confidence?
How do I return to my career, my relationships, and my life when everything feels different?

Those questions inspired me to create Own Your Next, a nonprofit dedicated to helping women navigate life after breast cancer through free coaching, community, and support.

Sharing this mission with the NYU community was incredibly meaningful, especially knowing that my journey as a coach and nonprofit founder was shaped by the mentors, professors, and peers who believed in me along the way.

Thank you to everyone who made this opportunity possible.

And thank you to every survivor who has trusted me with her story. You are the reason this work exists. 💗

I graduated last week from NYU, and it still feels surreal.

I came to the U.S. at 18 years old with $300 in my pocket and a toddler in my arms, searching for the American dream.

I didn’t know how to speak English, and I couldn’t afford school. So I taught myself how to read, write, and speak the language.

I made several attempts to enroll in school. At one point, I was accepted into a community college, but my children’s father and partner at the time said it would add too many miles to our car, and we couldn’t afford the wear and tear. So I quit before I even started.

Ten years later, I got accepted again and began taking one class at a time, but a painful divorce prevented me from continuing.

Fast forward to 2023. After 25+ years of professional experience, leading teams of up to 600 people, launching my coaching business, and earning multiple accreditations, I made the courageous ask to be accepted into a master’s degree program without having a bachelor’s degree.

Thanks to the support and mentorship of Dr. Anna D. Tavis, I was accepted into NYU SPS through the Professional Pathways program.

I’m incredibly proud to say that, to my knowledge, I am the only person thus far accepted into this program based on professional experience rather than a traditional bachelor’s degree.

This journey became one of the most meaningful experiences of my life, and I am beyond grateful for the learning, mentorship, opportunities, and friendships I gained along the way.

Today, I celebrate earning my Master of Science in Executive Coaching and Organizational Consulting from New York University.

I’m especially grateful that my mother and my daughters got to watch me walk across the stage at Radio City Music Hall and celebrate this moment with me.

A dream I never thought possible, especially after being diagnosed with cancer.

Here’s to all the dreams that seem impossible…
until one day you realize:

Today I’m proud to share something very personal.

I’m officially the Founder of OWN YOUR NEXT.

Own Your Next is a nonprofit dedicated to helping high-achieving women, particularly breast cancer survivors, reclaim their leadership identity and step into their next chapter with confidence.

This work is deeply personal to me.

When I was diagnosed with cancer at 48, everything in my life shifted. Not just my health, but my sense of identity, direction, and what the future would look like.

Survivorship changes you.

Over the past few years, I’ve spoken with many incredible women navigating the same experience. Brilliant leaders who fought for their lives, yet often find themselves rebuilding confidence, career momentum, and purpose once treatment ends.

I realized something important.

Surviving cancer is only part of the journey.

The next chapter is about reinvention.
That realization led me to create OWN YOUR NEXT.

Through coaching, community, and research-driven programs, our mission is to support survivors as they rebuild confidence, a sense of leadership identity, and a vision for the future.

This work has also been shaped by my studies in the Executive Coaching and Organizational Consulting program at NYU School of Professional Studies, where I’ve been exploring leadership identity and how people reintegrate after major life transitions.

I’m deeply grateful to the professors, mentors, peers, and early supporters who encouraged me to bring this vision to life.

This is just the beginning, and I’m incredibly excited for what lies ahead.

Sometimes the hardest part of surviving something life-changing…
is figuring out who you are afterward.

When I was diagnosed with cancer at 48, everything stopped.

Not just my health.
My identity.
My sense of control.
My vision for what came next.

Like many high-achieving women, I had spent decades building a career, leading teams, pushing forward.

But survivorship brings a different kind of question:
Now who am I?

Over the past few years, I’ve spoken with dozens of women navigating this same moment.

Brilliant leaders.
Accomplished professionals.
Women who fought for their lives.

And yet, when treatment ends, the world expects them to simply return to who they were before.

But something fundamental has changed.

The truth is, survivorship is not about going back.
It’s about owning what comes next.

In 2021, I was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Like many high-achieving women, after treatment I wanted to jump back into my business and role as leader and coach. But something had shifted. I realized my identity and values needed to be intentionally redefined.

Now, as part of my capstone research for my MS in Executive Coaching and Consulting at NYU School of Professional Studies, I’m looking to connect with women leaders who are breast cancer survivors.

This research explores how women navigate leadership, identity, and career reintegration after treatment and survivorship. The insights will directly inform future coaching, programs, and support designed specifically for women returning to their careers after treatment.

I’m inviting a small group of women to participate in a 20-minute confidential conversation. No preparation required. Just your lived experience.

Do you need an attitude adjustment?

Your attitude has a powerful impact on how you approach your day because it shapes your behavior, decisions, and even the energy you bring to others.

Taking a moment to pause and reflect can completely shift your perspective.

I remember a time when I felt overwhelmed juggling back-to-back commitments. Midday, I realized my frustration impacted my focus and interactions. I paused and asked myself, How is my current attitude shaping my behavior?

The answer was eye-opening. I wasn’t showing up as my best self, and that realization helped me reset my mindset and finish the day stronger.

Here’s a simple way to try it: midway through your day, ask yourself this question and see what shows up!

If your attitude isn’t serving you, take a breath, refocus, and choose a new one.

That small reset can lead to big changes in how you show up.

I’ve seen it happen to leaders, entrepreneurs — even myself.
A new idea pops up.
A new “shortcut” promises faster results.
Before you know it, focus is scattered and progress stalls.

But here’s the truth:
Distraction is the real enemy.

They don’t have more talent.
