Reflecting on what’s been a very fast year filled with highs, lows and invaluable lessons that will surely pave the way for us all in 2024.

A heartfelt thank you to our clients who entrusted us with their fitness goals. We don’t take that lightly. We have served a humble amount of people this year and couldn’t be happier with the change people were seeing. Both physical and mental.

Meet Dean.

He came to us at a point in his life where he had let himself go. He was working long days, mixed in with some night shifts. He was skipping meals, eating lots of take aways and generally snacking on very high calorie foods.

Dean is in recovery and was 2 years sober when he reached out. He finally felt like he was at a point where he could re focus and prioritise his health and fitness. Dean also played GAA for his local team in Cork and was suffering badly from a calf injury and wasn’t making the Junior team.

So between the hectic work schedule, aimlessly eating whatever foods he could get his hands on and not doing much physical activity, Dean gradually started piling on some body fat. Of course this is very common and happens to many of us throughout our lives. 

He finally decided enough was enough and wanted to make a change. It just so happened to coincide with the start of a new football season. So we got to work. 
Dean followed our programme The Blueprint Physique System. He trained four times a week and managed to get himself in the best shape of his life in JUST 24 weeks.  

Dean lost over 16 kilos or 35 pounds in 6 months. He saw his abs for the first time in 4 years. And he became one of the star players for the Junior team and got a call up to the Senior team. The system works, the proof is in the pudding.

Hopefully this transformation inspires YOU to want to make a positive change. Summertime is 6 months away. One thing Dean didn’t regret was starting early. He actually started one full year before his original goal. Which was to be in the best shape of his life for the beginning of his 2024 football season. I think it’s fair to say he achieved exactly that.

Remember to have fun.

Something that maybe isn’t discussed enough in the fitness industry is prioritizing exercise you enjoy.

Sure, lifting weights might be more optimal for giving your body shape but if it doesn’t excite you like climbing a mountain does… Then climb mountains🏔️ at the same time. Your training should align with your goals.

If getting an epic body transformation is the goal then you should lift weights but maybe you can reduce the amount of weight lifting sessions you do during the week and do other activity that gets your body moving but you enjoy it.

This approach may not be ‘optimal’ but if it helps you enjoy the process, that in turn may help you stick to the plan longer which will lead to better results.

Maybe you do enjoy weights but you hate certain exercises like barbell hip thrusts or walking lunges (😰) yes these are good exercises but if you absolutely dread doing them then do something else! Instead of a barbell hip thrust you might prefer a 45° back extension or a smith machine hip thrust. You’re still training the glutes and you’re not miserable while doing it.

I will also leave you with this. Training is fun when you are seeing results from your training.

If you’re not seeing results, change something! Nobody wants to bust their ass for nothing. That doesn’t sound like much fun to me.

This is he lost over 16 kilos in 6 months. You could also say 35 pounds in 24 weeks.

Six months is exactly how long our programme The BPS lasts for. We chose that duration for a reason because it’s a realistic time frame for dramatic change to take place.

Our programme isn’t revolutionary because to be completely honest there’s nothing revolutionary about getting into shape. It takes time, effort and consistency. Of course you need a solid training programme and to apply the law of energy balance. Most people already know this.

But why do we consistently get such good results with our clients? Reason number 1 is because we care. We genuinely care and want our clients to get the best result possible. Sometimes we may even want the result more than our clients. But we’re learning 🤓

Second reason is that we provide our clients with guidance and accountability. This is probably the most important thing you need when you want a result like this. We can hand you the perfect plan but you need to be guided through it. Then you need to be held accountable to said plan. And over a duration of 6 months, this is where most coaches fail.

They don’t hold their clients accountable because to be quiet honest, it’s hard work. You have to constantly be in contact with your client, checking in, sending voice notes, critiquing form videos, hopping on audio/video calls. You need to be available for them at all times. And as someone who also does 30-35 one to one personal training sessions a week with 10-15 different clients, I know how difficult this is.

But it’s the main difference between getting a result or not. And in order to give this kind of service you HAVE to care, there’s no faking it.

I’d like to say a huge well done to on achieving such an incredible result. He’s actually only getting started, next up for him is a lean gaining phase with his goal being to build some more muscle tissue and improve strength and performance for his upcoming football season.

My own progress after 1 year of sticking to the same training programme.

I had no real goal in mind other than to develop a consistent routine, aim to lift heavier and push close to failure every session that I could.

A year might sound like a long a time to stick to the same programme and maybe it is. But I enjoy training and I make it work around my lifestyle and current schedule. I trained in the gym 3x per week. That’s not a lot but 3 sessions in one year is 156 sessions. That is a lot.

Make your training schedule work for you. Don’t follow a plan that’s unrealistic to begin with.

The perfect plan doesn’t exist. You’ll learn as you go.

Time is going to pass anyways. So don’t wait to get started.

Find a gym with the right environment to train in. Thank you

How did David and I meet?

I got asked this question on this weeks Q&A and realised we never really told the story here so here it is.

David and I met in 2016 so just over 7 years ago. I used to work in a factory called Valeo where they make parking cameras for cars. This was just as I started to do 1 to 1 PT, so starting out I wasn't fully booked so I picked up this weekend job while I built up my clientele. (On dat grind)

It was two 12 hour shifts, one week was days and the following was nights(grim). 
I met David here. He had heard through the grapevine that I was a PT, and at the time he was doing some BS course in college and despised it. Excuse me the course was actually called BIS.

He was thinking about venturing into personal training but wanted to pick my brain about what PT course to do etc. So he approached me.

My boss, who was a particularly menacing figure came over and told David to F off. I told him to make sure we go on the same break so we could sit down and chat. We broke bread together for the first time that night. 7 years on and we've been inseparable ever since.

Many people don’t know that David pretty much lived with me and my dad (Monday to Friday) for two years between 2018 and 2020. What a time this was. All we did was sleep, eat, work and train. Then I moved to Canada in January 2020 and David joined me out there in July of the same year.

We lived together for another 2 and a half years in two different cities while also travelling together numerous times. Most notably was a 6 week trip to Cuba that was life changing for both of us.

David came up with the idea of in August 2021. We spent 8 months working tirelessly to create what is now The Blueprint Physique System. Fast forward to September 2022 and we both moved back to Ireland together.

Unfortunately he didn’t join me in my latest adventure to Saudi Arabia but you can be sure we’ll be meeting again soon. What part of the world, who knows? But one thing is certain, we both share the same passion for what we do and we want to continue changing peoples lives and building a community along the way. Brennan and Biggie 🥂

Question for you.

Would you rather be lean and look good for the entire year. Or would you rather diet to look ‘shredded’ for about 2 weeks, to only end up looking like 💩 for the rest of the year?

As someone who has done both. I can tell you that I prefer being at a healthy level of body fat and looking all the time. I feel way better.

I have a good balance of enjoying life and the foods I love while still holding myself accountable.

This allows me to be consistent year round.

I think most people would prefer that.

I remember when this wasn’t always the case for me.

I dieted for photoshoots, I competed in physique competitions and while I looked good in those photos. What came shortly after did not look good.

I looked like a swelled water buffalo after about 2 weeks 🦬

This could’ve been avoided if I asked myself these questions.

Is this sustainable? If you are dieting do you have an exit plan? Can you see yourself being consistent with your current approach? Are you able to balance life and fitness? Are you happy?

If the answer is no to any of the above you need to take a step back and reassess your strategy.
