We did it! We built a great and successful team together! Thanks to everybody who was part of it! I enjoyed it whole time, but now it´s time to continue in different way...
"Bauer's eD system Bauer Team ends, saying goodbye after 7 seasons among the elite of long-distance skiing
Stage places in many Ski Classics races, six places in the TOP 10 among teams or 10 competitors in the TOP 10 in VISMA SkiClassics final standings. Lukáš Bauer's team reached those results in ski marathons, where presented itself with great results for seven long seasons. Now he is leaving the world of ski marathons, but in the history of this ski discipline he remains written in strong letters.
Lukáš Bauer decided to end the activities of a successful team after two seasons, in which he simultaneously played the role of coach of the Polish men's national team and director of the eD system Bauer Team. "I came to the conclusion that the combination was not beneficial for the team, although at the beginning I believed that it would be possible to combine both. But it was not optimal and before surviving, I decided to end the team - even with regard to the successful history. It doesn't close easily for me, but than clinging to something what I'm holding back, it's better to end it for now. Whether this is the end is final, or it is just an interruption, the future will show, ”says Bauer.
The medalist from the Olympic Games and the World Cross-Country Ski Championships have been considering the end of the marathon team for a long time, and the final decision came during this season. "I was thinking about it last year when it turned out that I could not help the team with time as I would like. The final decision was made after Vasaloppet, but I wanted to announce it after the end of the season. "
Before the last year, the team underwent a significant change and gave the opportunity to Czech competitors who could fight for interesting results in ski marathons in the future. "It worked out because Adam Matouš proved himself. Due to his age and until then zero experience with marathons, he did it well. It is certainly a promise for the future and I would like him to continue. Our titular partner eD system also declared that he would like to continue to support marathon skiing, so now together we are looking for a team, where the eD system could be active. We are thinking about Czech teams and Scandinavian as well. The legacy of our team could thus continue by connecting the titular partner with Adam and a new team, "reveals Bauer.
Seven seasons among the elite
Lukáš Bauer founded his marathon team in 2014. From the beginning, it was to have an international concept and the goal was to compete with the dominant Scandinavian teams. "We managed to meet the goal, we were the most successful non-Scandinavian team most of the seasons, which is a huge success. Three years ago, we were even fourth in the team competition with minimal loss to third. Our competitors managed to win a lot of races, the most successful were Katerina Smutna and Ilya Chernousov. Overall, we have left a significant mark on the history of ski marathons, "Bauer is pleased.
The biggest team success was 4th place in the overall standings in the 2017/2018 season and 5th place a year later. Bauer's team has appeared in the top ten six times, either under the original name Team Pioneer Investments, called Bauer Ski Team in the most successful season or as the eD system Bauer Team in the last three years. In the overall individual standings, the members of Bauer's team were in the elite ten ten times, Katerina Smutna even three times on the podium. In the colors of Bauer's team, Smutna and Chernousov won the triumph in the Ski Classics race several times. In 2019, Lukáš Bauer himself was named the best team director of the season in Ski Classics.
"It will be a great memory for me. Thanks to my actvities in marathons, I met a lot of great people, I also looked at another branch of skiing and in a different position then even before. It's been a great time and saying goodbye is hard. I always thought that once the team ended, it would be because I couldn't secure it financially. In the end, however, the reason is the combination of lack of time and personnel part, when it was always difficult to provide the team with quality people, both on the service side and on the racing side, which I currently see as unrealistic and is the main reason for the end of the team, "admits Bauer.
In seven seasons, thirty competitors of different nationalities presented themselves in the colors of his team in at least one Ski Classics race. "It was also a challenge for me - that we have a transnational dimension. In some ways we were pioneers, we came up with our vision and ideas. I would like to thank everyone who took part in the project - without a cooperating team of servicemen and competitors, none of this would have been possible, as well as without our partners, who have given us the opportunity to realize our dream. But most of all, I would like to thank my wife and children for allowing me to build and devote a team, because it took a lot of time. ”
Lukáš Bauer will continue to devote his time to training the Polish men's national team, with which his first training camp before the upcoming season is just beginning. However, his team will no longer compete in the VISMA SkiClassics marathon serie."
