As divers, sea operators, and people who live the sea every day, we cannot stay indifferent.

We signed this petition because we believe that a Marine Protected Area must remain a place of protection — not compromise.

The Area Marina Protetta Capo Gallo – Isola delle Femmine is a precious ecosystem where Posidonia meadows, marine biodiversity, and coastal balance deserve real safeguarding, not decisions that risk weakening their protection.

We know that living by the sea also means making difficult choices and finding solutions. But environmental protection cannot always be the aspect asked to step back.

We are disappointed by the direction this proposal seems to take, yet still hopeful that citizens’ voices, scientific awareness, and love for the sea can make a difference.

The sea is not only a resource. It is a living heritage we borrow from the future.

Il direttore di Marevivo Sicilia, Mariella Gattuso sarà Tedoforo per le Olimpiadi Milano Cortina 2026 e quindi avrà l'onore di portare la Fiamma Olimpica nell'ambito della Staffetta della città di Trapani il 15.12.2025 alle ore 14.15.
Tutti gli amici che volessero unirsi a lei in questo fantastico viaggio devono cercare lo sticker identiticativo del suo tratto col numero 62 che si troverà indicativamente in Via Ammiraglio Staiti, 7.
Anni d'impegno nella difesa del mare racchiusi in un prestigioso riconoscimento che ci gratifica e ci fa andare avanti sempre più determinati.

On this 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗲𝗮𝗻, we celebrate a sea that breathes life through its hidden architects — like our Mediterranean coral 𝘾𝙡𝙖𝙙𝙤𝙘𝙤𝙧𝙖 𝙘𝙖𝙚𝙨𝙥𝙞𝙩𝙤𝙨𝙖.
Here in Ustica, we monitor, protect, and restore its colonies because the future of the Med depends on the health of these silent builders of biodiversity.

🌍 Today is the 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗟𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗪𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲.

When we think of food waste, we often picture leftovers or spoiled produce. But beneath the surface, the sea suffers from its own invisible waste: 𝕘𝕙𝕠𝕤𝕥 𝕟𝕖𝕥𝕤.

👻 These are abandoned fishing nets that continue to trap fish, damage corals, and destroy habitats long after they are lost. They represent a hidden form of food loss at sea — wasting marine life, ecosystems, and food security.

In Ustica’s Marine Protected Area 🇮🇹, we were proud to lead the Ghost Nets Recovery Project, supported by the Sicily Environment Fund, together with the MPA authorities, local fishermen, and our team at Mare Nostrum Commercial Diving.

🔹 Over 500 kg of ghost nets have already been removed from dive sites like Punta Falconiera, Punta San Ferlicchio, Secca della Colombara, and Scoglio del Medico.
🔹 This work has restored habitats, freed trapped species, and helped protect future resources for generations to come.

On this day, we invite everyone to look at food waste not only on land but also at sea. Reducing waste means protecting both people and ecosystems.
