CORONAVIRUS AND THE COLLECTIVE MIND: GOING BEYOND NEGATIVITY
Besides our individual minds there is a collective mind. This exists on many levels starting with family, friends and community, extending to our nation and humanity as a whole. While it is dominated by the thoughts of the present moment, this collective mind extends to the past and the future as well.
Along with the collective mind is a collective prana or vital energy, extending from ourselves to all whom we are closely connected to but ultimately to all human beings and our vital energy connections with the world of nature.
This collective mind and prana can extend further to the entire Earth consciousness and ultimately to the entire universe, but accessing that requires a leap of awareness. As we human beings are not very spiritually evolved, the influence of the collective mind and prana works usually to keep our awareness drawn down into the material world and ego based urges.
Collective traumas and pandemics like the Coronavirus naturally have a strong impact on the collective mind. This means that they affect our individual minds as well as those of our friends and family. Collective emotions can influence or even overwhelm our individual minds, as is known in the mob based violence on the negative side. They also disrupt our positive prana and immunity.
It is important today that we protect ourselves from the negative influences of the collective mind, its fears and phobias. Yet we should be open to the positive influences of the collective mind of peace, compassion and fearlessness. To do that we should look beyond the ordinary collective human mind to the greater planetary and universal consciousness behind our lives. This is the essence of meditation expanding into the infinite.
Similarly, we should remove our prana from any negative collective pranic forces and their energy disruptions. This is the essence of pranayama extending into the universal Prana. Yoga and Vedanta teach us how to work with these forces.
