This exercise is very useful for feeling the push from the back leg. In this way, the player is forced to find stability and develop a good vertical drive.
This allows the player to achieve greater relaxation in the arm and to understand a fundamental concept: first, you need to push upward to get over the ball, and then land in balance

I use this video a lot to show young tennis players how important the final phase of the stroke is — the finish.

For me, the finish is fundamental because it gives you stability, allows you to feel the ball better, and gives you maximum precision. Most of the time, when there is no proper finish, these qualities are lost.
I believe it’s important for every young tennis player to pay close attention to this final phase of the stroke.
I also use this concept a lot with players who tend to spend too little time on the ball. They may arrive on the run and manage to feel the lower part of the stroke, but the upper part tends to disappear immediately after impact.
Staying in the finish allows you to stay on the trajectory for as long as possible, creating greater stability and precision. It also helps you find a more efficient way to recover and get back into position faster with the recovery step.

The finish is not just the end of the stroke — it is part of the stroke itself

I use this exercise a lot when I want to create separation between the lower and upper body.
With the lower body, I focus mainly on intensity and reactivity in the feet, while with the upper body I ask for relaxation, fluidity, and fast hands.
This combination allows me to maintain quality even on intermediate balls, around three-quarters of the court, especially when the opponent slows the game down with a softer or more “dead” ball.

Being able to maintain intensity in the lower body and relaxation in the upper body is a key element for continuing to play with quality even when the rhythm of the rally changes

“Failure is the mother of success.”
失败是成功之母

For me, it perfectly represents a fundamental principle of the development process: mistakes must be accepted as part of improvement.
In tennis, this means accepting that mistakes will happen while modifying a stroke, developing a new movement, or building a tactical structure.
Mistakes allow us to gather information, understand what is not working, and find better solutions.
That is why perseverance is essential: improvement takes time and does not always happen in a linear way.
The ability to accept mistakes, analyze them, and keep working is what allows a player to evolve and, over time, find greater confidence and peace of mind in the process.

Accepting mistakes does not mean accepting poor performance.
It means accepting that making mistakes is part of the process of getting better.

This is one of the videos I like showing the most because it really shows how much work goes into what is now, in my opinion, one of the most effective serves on the Tour.

Since 2015, Jannick has changed and refined his serve several times. If you look closely, almost every year there was something to improve, something to adjust, something to develop.
And this is exactly what shows us how important the improvement process is.
It takes time, patience, and the ability to wait until all the necessary conditions are in place to achieve the maximum efficiency of a shot.
Very often, we lose sight of this and try to find a solution too quickly. But player development doesn’t work that way.
You need to be patient, observe carefully, and above all, respect the person and the player’s individual development.
Because this is also fundamental to achieving results at the highest level.

Jannick’s serve today is a great example of all this: it is not the result of a quick solution, but of a process built over time

A few years ago.
Back then, we were simply two friends sharing the same passion for tennis.
Over time, that friendship grew into a professional relationship, and I’m grateful for the journey we’ve both been on.
Sometimes time changes everything. Other times, it brings you back to where there’s still something meaningful to build.

This story isn’t over… in fact, perhaps the best chapter is yet to be written

There are experiences that go far beyond tennis and remind you why you love this profession.

Thanks to Sven Groeneveld , I had the privilege of being invited by FILA Kids Diamond Cup Elite Camp to take part in a three-day training camp with some of the best young tennis players in China.
I arrived hoping to share my experience, but I returned home with so much more. I found outstanding organization, exceptional professionalism, a warm welcome, and above all, people with remarkable human values.
My sincere thanks go to the organizers for their trust, to all the coaches who worked alongside me with great passion and professionalism, and to the young players, who impressed me every day with their enthusiasm, curiosity, and desire to improve.
A very special thank you also goes to the parents. Their support, commitment, and willingness to invest in their children’s development are a powerful reminder that the journey of a young athlete is always a team effort.
It was a true honor to be part of this project. It was an unforgettable week filled with learning, meaningful exchanges, new friendships, cultural experiences, and a shared passion for tennis. I will look back on this experience with great appreciation and remain deeply grateful for everything I experienced
I truly hope this is just the beginning of a journey we can continue together.

Thank you, China. Thank you, FILA Kids Diamond Cup Elite Camp. And thank you to everyone who made this experience so special.

A special thanks to: Jennifer Chen Tiffany Shao 🙏

In tennis, learning doesn’t start with words. It starts with what the player sees.

A child first visualizes, then copies, then understands, and finally personalizes the movement.
The coach’s role is to provide the right model, guide the learning process, and help every player develop their own unique technique.
This is one of the fundamental principles of modern motor learning.
