Today marks an important moment in Muay Thai history, as March 17th is recognized as Nai Khanom Tom Day, also known worldwide as Muay Thai Day 🇹🇭
In 1774, following the fall of the Ayutthaya Kingdom during the Burmese invasion, Nai Khanom Tom was taken prisoner and later chosen to represent Siam in a test against Burmese fighters.
After performing the Wai Kru, a ritual mistaken for black magic, he stepped into the ring and defeated the Burmese champion by knockout, then went on to overcome nine more opponents consecutively, showcasing the true power of Muay Boran.
Impressed by his performance, the king granted him freedom that same day, marking a defining moment in the legacy of Muay Thai.
Today, we honor not only Nai Khanom Tom, but also the ancient teachers and warriors who shaped, preserved, and elevated Muay Thai into the respected Art of Eight Limbs it is today. 🇹🇭
