The recent spreading of the Covid-19 disease in Italy -although quite limited- has caused the (hopefully temporary) cancellation of some international events that would have taken place in the country. Among them, unfortunately, the MTTU U15 Championships in Lignano Sabbiadoro; but it seems that they are only postponed.

Here is the official announcement by the MTTU President Renato Di Napoli:

Dear friends;

as you all already know, at the present time there is a Covid-19 (coronavirus) epidemic emergency in Northern Italy.

Due to this situation, having checked the latest statements coming from the Italian Ministry of Health and having received the latest directives from the Italian Regional Governments, we are compelled, in order to safeguard all athletes’, coaches’, and staff’s health, to postpone the 2020 MTTU U15 Championships in Lignano Sabbiadoro (Udine province, Italy) organized with the supervision and the aid of the Italian Table Tennis Federation (FITET).

The dates of March 15,16,17,18 previously fixed for the event have been cancelled.

I want to thank all the Associations which submitted their entries.

It is my belief and desire, though, that the U15 Championships can be resumed next October. Much depends from the 2020 Italian Junior & Cadet Open scheduling. We will do our best to reschedule the MTTU U15. As soon as we establish our sporting program we will contact all MTTU members again.

I really hope that the Covid-19 crisis will end soon both in Italy and in the rest of the world.

I am looking forward to seeing all athletes going back in the sporting venues to play without any fear.

The extraordinary meeting of the MTTU Executive Board took place in Beirut, Lebanon. The assembly was hosted by the Lebanese Table Tennis Federation, and, thanks to the excellent hospitality and the cordiality of the LTTF President Selim Hajj Nicolas and the Secretary General Georges Kopaly, it was held in a mood of great collaboration and friendship.

MTTU President Renato Di Napoli was the first to appreciate such a warm welcome and sincerely thanked President Hajj Nicolas.

During the meeting various aspects concerning the current functioning and also the present and future activities of the MTTU were examined, following the Agenda. The location of the 2021 U15 championships is still to be decided.

A particular issue inserted in the Agenda was the one relating to the future MTTU brand identity.

All participants expressed full satisfaction for the work done.

An extraordinary meeting of the MTTU executive board will take place in Beirut, Lebanon, next Sunday, December 8th.

The EB members who’ll attend the meeting will arrive on Saturday and thanks to the efforts and hospitality of the Lebanon TT Federation President, Mr. Selim Hajj-Nicolas, will share a weekend of business related to our sport and friendly conversations.

Among other matters, the discussions will pertain to the MTTU financial status, the functioning of the Sponsor agreement and the hosting of the 2021 MTTU U15 Championships.

During the ITTF World Table Tennis Championships in Budapest, MTTU will host its Executive Board Meeting on the 21st April at 9:00 a.m. at the Hotel Corinthia in Meeting Room 2 and its Annual General Meeting on the 23rd April at 9:00 a.m. at the Hotel Corinthia in Meeting Room 2.

President Di Napoli invites you all there to discuss MTTU business and receive your proposals and suggestions in the interest of our movement.

In the last day of the MTTU Under 15 Championships, which are taking place in Lignano Sabbiadoro, Greece’s Malamatenia Papadimitriou and Spain’s Miguel Angel Pantoia won the singles titles.

In the final match of the girls Papadimitriou beat Italy’s Miriam Benedetta Carnovale in four games (11-3, 11-6, 8-11, 11-5). For the third place Spain’s Eugenia Sastre defeated Cyprus’s Meletie Foteini in straight games (11-7, 12-10, 11-5).

In the boys’ tournament Pantoia accounted for Tunisia’s Khalil Sta on the long distance (11-5, 12-10, 6-11, 7-11, 11-3). Bronze medalist was Turkey’s Isik Hakan, who got better of Tunisia’s Yussef Abid in four games (11-8, 11-8, 8-11, 11-7).
