I had a fabulous day today at the Pendragon stages for my first visit to Warcop. I enjoyed the venue and found the stages to be very good.
With James having engine issues with this M3, he gave the R5 a try for this event. No expectations set for the day. The aim was to enjoy it and get to the finish.
In the UK a few more events are adapting to virtual chicanes in the style of a speed gun and screen at the side of the road. This event used this system and it was my first time on this style, having only used the FIA virtual chicanes. It was good experience to see what this technology is like on a live stage.
We went out with no anti leg on in the morning, so we could learn the car, each other, the venue and chicanes. The stages were fast but we got held up quite a lot; but accept these things happen and we wouldn’t have been the only ones to be held up - there are only a few passing places and the stages are lined with rocks!
The afternoon stages were reversed and felt a lot more technical and had more work to them. We felt comfortable in the car and wanted more from what she gave in the morning so turned anti lag on for the remaining stages. We had a good rhythm and set top 10 times.
James drove a spectacular rally, quickly adjusting to the car, and me - a completely new co-driver with a different voice and accent to trust. It feels great when that partnership clicks.
We finished 11th overall, from starting 28, out of 95 cars. We were in the highest class for the event, with 25 crews entered, we came 5th excluding the top 3 overall.
