Mountain running is a worldwide sport and branch of traditional athletics. World Athletics recognises WMRA as the controlling body for international mountain running. In 2002 after the World Mountain Running Association (WMRA), born on 1984 as International Committee Mountain Running (ICMR), had staged, since 1985, a successful event entitled ‘the World Trophy’, attracting entries from more than 3

0 countries, World Athletics also gave the permission to WMRA for changing title of 'the World Trophy' into 'the World Championships', starting on 2009.
