If someone someday will point a gun right at my heart, asking "what is the maindifference between real Karate and Sportskarate", than ... what would i say? 🤔
Its not that easy, because there are a lot. For example i could answer from pointing out the Fighting-Part. Because real Karate from here is all about "real Fighting". Called Jissen. Which is, believe me, wayyyy different to sportfighting, regardless how close it will be to reality, no matter how hard it may be. Jissen in its core as i understand it (until now) is fighting for the decission between Live & Death. There are no rules or referees. There are only two warriors. One will stay, the other will go down. Thats it. Real Karate seems to be verry aware about this simple but strong truth.
There are other possibilitys. We can look at the Kata, the methods, meanings, "katacompetition" and all this things and we will see many differences. Or the trainingmethods itself, Jumbi undo and Hojo undo for example.
But if someone is asking me this question and my life is the price in this quiz, i will say: Its the deep and strong energizing and connecting spirituality. Every breath, every move, every single technic, every kata, every exercise -> the verry present core in all this is awareness, concentration and kokoro: doing all this with the full heart you can bring in. At least you can get a glimpse about this here: Every training starts and ends with Meditationpractice. And this, friends, has strong importance for sure.
I think it has a verry straight pointing reason, that our Stream of Goju Style is called "MEIBUKAN". The "house of the pure minded Wasrrior". Thank you, Mr. Ikemiyagi Sensei and Filippo Sensei for giving us the opportunity to be part of Ikemiyagi Meibukan Family and okinawan culture
