Lessons from our Italy Honeymoon Part 2: We all rest differently, but my *favorite* ways to rest on vacation are 👇

1️⃣ Throwing all my money at exquisite food - excellence restores my spirit ✨
2️⃣ Learning something new
3️⃣ Spending the whole day hiking, deep in nature, and coming back to do #1

I thought a lot about 👆that.

How DIFFERENT rest looks for all of us.

I frame “Rest” as anything that restores your energy.

Could be creative energy, physical energy, spiritual energy, social energy, etc etc — Rest wears a lot of masks, and we all do it differently. ✨

❌ On this trip, I saw that city time 🌆, mediocre food, and avoiding a rest day (to keep exploring) drained me…

👌 But investing in a few exquisite dining experiences, beautiful, quiet spaces, learning a new skill from a woman owned business I so admire, and spending the whole day sweating & hiking…that consistently poured into me ⛽️

It’s taken me EIGHT YEARS to buck up the courage & build a business model that lets me take 3 out of 12 months off a year.

And, I think most any ambitious person course correcting from a lifetime of pushing & striving to a more fulfilling balance of ambition and softness gets it…

Resting isn’t easy. 🫠

It takes courage. And practice to re-wire our brains (esp. when you grow up in a productivity-obsessed culture like the US, or watch your parents work nonstop just to survive) to build safety and a new story around rest…

To change the story from:
👹 “I’ll rest after I finish XYZ” or
😮‍💨 “I can’t slow down. If I do, it’s going to fall apart or I won’t be able to pay my bills”

To:
👌 “It’s safe to rest,” &
💁🏽‍♀️“I do my best work and sell the most after I rest”

One of the most powerful parts of this month break & honeymoon was adding a BIG FAT piece of evidence to my own nervous system’s archives that 👆 all of that is possible and true for me.

I can step away. I can rest. I can and do earn more when I rest more.

Lessons from our Italy Honeymoon Part 1: I learned I’m well suited to not working 🤷🏼‍♀️😂

This is longest break from work I’ve ever taken in my life — ✨1 full month off ✨

Something that makes me burst with pride is that in 2025, I’ll take the most time off that I ever have in my career, while still earning the most I ever have — 3 months out of 12 off.

And for a recovering productivity hacker/over-achiever who still works daily to unlink being busy from being “good enough” — I gotta say, it is both thrilling and alarming how easily I found it to not work and how much I’m looking forward to keeping this up 💅😂👹

Here’s a little (part I) BTS of our honeymoon in Italy: 🇮🇹
🥂 We drank more wine than I have since I was 25 and have become Aperol’s newest unpaid Influencers
🍦 The only spots Gabriel researched and saved in Google Maps in advance were gelaterias
🍆 Florence is a master of TASTEFUL D*ck pics.
🛍️ I treated myself to a (budgeted & saved for 🫡) shopping spree in Florence and realized I’d like to move into Prada. They just ✨see the real me✨ there.
🍱 We got the BEST to go sushi, hiked up to the Piazzale Michelangelo in Florence, and sipped spritzes while we watched the sunset - it was perfection
👩🏼‍🤝‍👨🏽 We ran into Gabriel’s childhood best friend’s sister (from a small town in Argentina) & had (more) spritzes with her family!
🍷 A Top 3 highlight was a wine tasting & incredible lunch on Madonna Bella farm as we left Florence & drove to Tuscany
🌻 There are no bad views in Tuscany. Zero. None. Can confirm.
🚘 We spent a week in the Val d’Orcia of Tuscany, chariotted away by our beloved (death trap of a vehicle) Fiat Panda
🏰 We stayed the whole time outside of Pienza in a REAL CASTLE, y’all. And we bought an incredible spread of fresh cheeses, jams, grilled veggies, bread and prosecco for a picnic in the garden 🥹
🍝 A Top 2 highlight of the trip was visiting an organic, sustainable farm for a pasta making class led by Sandra - the founder & fenom you see here, showing us her “Cheese Vault” and bossy goats 🐐

4 day work week? Not my cup of tea 🫖 But these are ⬇️

I know, I know - our girl is obsessed. The literature sings its praises (read “Rest” & “Shorter”).

So, I too tried drinking the 4 day work week kool-aide.

What happened?

❌ I felt more pressured & rushed ❌ Didn’t love sacrificing my admin Fridays ❌ 3 day weekend “juice” wasn’t worth the squeeze 🍋 for me!

I found I need 4+ days off to actually FEEL significantly ✨REFRESHED✨

So, I focused on blocking off LONGER breaks. consistently.
Here’s 3 “Rest Strategies” that do work for ME:

1️⃣ 4 day weekends 1x/month
2️⃣ Minimum 2 weeks off in December & July
3️⃣ “Unsexy, Unplanned Week Off” as needed

…and in the past 2 years — I’ve added in a 3 week vacation in March ⚡️

Calendaring #1 & #2 ahead of time is simple enough.

But #3? That’s an emergency party trick I learned the hard way last year.

In Summer 2024, I was running my coaching business, started a 2nd marketing business with my fiance, was planning an international wedding…and then I got news that a best friend suffered the worst kind of loss imaginable.

The grief took me out. I immediately got vertigo. My whole neck and back seized up. And I KNEW I needed time off - now.

Thus, the “Unsexy, Unplanned Week Off” was born!

I stayed home. I didn’t have a plan. I just cleared a week & made a list of “Unsexy” (life s*t I needed to do) & “Sexy” (delightful, restorative sh t) could-do’s.

What REALLY worked? 🔑 ➡️ I stayed home. I didn’t rush anywhere. I took care of my body, mental health and spirit and did things that genuinely restored my energy. And I made a “menu of options” for things I “could do, if I feel like it,” but no pressure to get it all done.

I finished feeling A MILLION TIMES BETTER, and healthier.

TAKE HEED, RICH & RESTED WARRIORS - every. Single. One. of. Us. is. Different. We have different businesses, different life “seasons,” and different ways our bodies recharge…

So, PLEASE, don’t copy/paste my strategy.

May Joyful Chaos Carousel 🌴

May mostly felt like my journalings of a “Rich Life” jumped off the page and made themselves the rhythm of the month: abundant quality time with my favorite people, adventures, getting to gift my guy a birthday present he loves & slow dinners with friends on the terrace.

I say “mostly,” because I write this with puncture wounds 🩸 in my hand from trying to train our rescue pup. Month 2 with Lulu has been a spiritual exercise in patience 💆‍♀️

Mangled hands aside, here’s what made my heart happy:
✈️ My cousin/sister .bk came to Puerto Vallarta to celebrate her birthday
🥳 I met her at the airport in my Lucha Libre mask singing Happy Birthday in Spanish, & she let me dress her up in long gloves, a clown hat & glasses
🛥️ We spent a whole day boating to virgin beaches I had never seen before
💅 My industrious family built a shelter on a virgin beach from paddleboards & palm fronds while I tanned. *More on that below….
🏝️ We dubbed it “Wilson Beach” - because we felt like we were in Castaway
👍 Being cast in “True Life: I Married a Drone Pilot”
🐕 Walks on the beach with Lulu
🎁 Surprising Gabriel with the wood-fire pizza oven he’s wanted for years
🐶 Lulu getting as absolutely filthy as possible at Doggie Day Care
🌊 Helping Lulu get over her fears of the water…little by little
👨🏻 Watching Gabriel build Lulu shaded private digging quarters at the beach…while I sit a sand-safe distance away with my book
📚 Reading “Quicksilver” & Books 1, 2 & 3 of “Throne of Glass” series
👯‍♀️ Sunset dinners with friends, & Gabriel making obscene quantities of pizza
🎈 Celebrating G’s 43rd birthday!! (he made 14 pizzas from scratch 💀)
🍕 Preparing my body for Italy in July…

Spending so much time at the beach, I realized…

There’s 2 types of people in this world:
🏃🏽‍♀️ Those that “DO” at the beach, and
💅 Those that “DON’T” at the beach

I surround myself with beach “doer’s” - those that constantly invent activities for themselves so they don’t have to sit and do nothing. I, however, am a “dont’er” - I apply extreme quantities of sunscreen so I can do nothing but read, and not move for 5 hrs.

Part 2: Chaotic, joyful moments - February edition

Our wedding is just 2 weeks away, so we drove to Guadalajara to do my final dress fitting and take it home 🥹

Keeping with the chaotic, joyful theme, these are entirely out of order 🥂

Not pictured: Ocasional tears over the stress of planning this whole international wedding ourselves, on top of running our businesses and current events 🤸🏼‍♀️

But every time that stress does reach a boiling point - I’m surrounded by a lot of love. Thank you to Gabriel, my family, my friends and my clients for all your support, laughter and empathy.

It’s a really sweet time of life ❤️

The IDEA was a joyful 3 month photo dump…

I’m pleased to report that I found it to be an impossible task. 👍

I had 40+ photos and videos from December - February that I couldn’t choose between, and just said “F*ck it. I’ll make 2 chaotic, joyful carousels!” 🎠👹🎉

I’m honestly heartbroken and terrified most times I open Facebook & IG these days - what new horrifying violation of our democracy, human rights & environmental protections will be announced today?

So, I hope this chaotic smattering of joyful moments lifts your heart a little, and makes you smile thinking about your own chaotic smattering of joy, as of late.

When I scroll through these moments of greeting my beloved cousin & her family at the airport in my Lucha Libre mask, our tropical adventures, my girlfriends that I cry/pee laughing with, and all the moments with my sweet Gabriel (including using pool cushions to mimic our aisle at our wedding venue & taking videos of the Jurassic park-esque road to said venue so our guests know what they’re in for), I just feel grateful.

My “Rich Life” vision is mostly about having the abundance of time, energy and money to be present & playful with the people that feel like a warm hug.

And seeing this carousel filled with moments shared with people I love makes me so proud.

Anywho, keep focused on whatever’s making you grateful today, my friend. Keep course correcting back towards your own vision of a “Rich Life.” You’re loved and good enough, just as you are, sweet one.

It seems everyone *but me* saw this coming 😂❤️

Gabriel and I just got home from a 3 week trip in Argentina - a trip where I met his mom, my parents flew from the US to meet G’s family & see where he grew up, and I perfected my Spanish-English translation services for 10 days straight 🤪🫠🤣 - and needless to say - it’s become one of my most treasured life experiences for a lot of reasons.

I waited a long time for Gabriel, and he is worth an even longer wait ❤️

When I first met him, I came in like a tornado at 6:30 AM fresh off a red eye flight ✈️ back from Colombia, scooping up all my moving boxes - ruined a flood that happened while I was away - stored in our mutual friends’ home that he was housesitting, and all I wanted to do was get back to my apartment and sleep. I was in, out and off in an Uber in 15 minutes. I just remember thinking “that guy was insanely friendly and helpful,” and didn’t even think twice about him after that. 🚗

4 months later, I met him again - this time going to celebrate New Years Eve in a nearby beach town with friends.

I had just ended a relationship and the LAST thing I was looking for was getting myself into another one. I was just grateful to be surrounded by kind, happy people instead of crying alone at home - and saw Gabriel was a deeply kind, trustworthy guy full of integrity. You can see the first photo we ever took together in the carousel above - he told me later it scared him how we looked like a couple even though we barely knew each other 😂

Then I invited him to run a marathon with me and we built a friendship training weekly. I thought it was both sexy and obnoxious that he was faster than me, even though he had never run before. 🙄

But within weeks, I think we both knew we had found more than a running buddy.

Fast forward to this trip, and EVEN THOUGH all my friends kept asking me if he was going to propose - the parents were meeting in Argentina, after all- I said there was a 0% chance of that happening. [*continued in comments, if you’re nosey like me 💅*]
