The Path of the Independent: When Loyalty Becomes a Shackle
Under the golden light of the setting sun reflecting off the water, Kaelen knelt solemnly. Before him stood the majestic Kurogane Clan Castle, the place he had called home for two decades, where he had dedicated his life, sweat, and blood as a loyal samurai. But today, everything had changed.
With both hands firm, he raised his katana high above his head—not in a stance ready to attack, but as a final salute and a ceremonial departure. Kaelen realized a bitter truth: blind loyalty had slowly eroded his own soul. For years, he had obeyed his master's orders out of a code of honor. But when those orders began to violate his principles of justice and inner peace, he knew he had to choose. To stay would mean betraying his conscience; to leave would be branded a traitor to the clan.
New Philosophy: Dōkeshi no michi (独立の道)
Cherry blossom petals fall around her, symbolizing the transience of life and new beginnings. An ancient character is engraved on her chest, and a new, firm principle is now embedded in her heart: "Don't be so loyal that you betray yourself."
Through this decision, Kaelen sheds her status and chooses the path of Dokuritsu no Michi (The Path of Independence). She is no longer merely a tool to satisfy the ruler's ambitions, but a wandering warrior walking on her own truth. With her head bowed in reverence but with unwavering determination, she is ready to step into the future as a fully independent human being.
