🆕📰 Sofuoglu and Rato battle for the points in Race 1 at Aragon
Today, after the third and final free practice session, the two riders from Sandro Carusi’s team took part in the Superpole, which established the starting positions for this weekend’s first two races.
Despite the intense heat, which made the Andalusian track slippery, both riders significantly improved on their times from yesterday. Bahattin (1:49.311) finished in twentieth place, ahead of Mattia (1:49.584).
Both the Turkish and Italian riders therefore started from the seventh row in the afternoon race, which ran over a scheduled distance of 18 laps.
In truly difficult conditions, with track temperatures approaching 60 degrees Celsius, Mattia and Bahattin got off to a good start and joined the chasing pack battling for the point zone.
Unfortunately, despite making no mistakes and maintaining a high pace, they had to settle for nineteenth and eighteenth places, respectively.
Sandro Carusi - Team Principal 🗣️ “It’s difficult to race in these temperatures, but our riders proved they are physically prepared and fought throughout the race for the points zone, in a group that also included factory riders. With the data collected today, we will try to improve the setup of our bikes to be more competitive in tomorrow’s two races.”
🗣️ “In this morning’s free practice session, we made significant progress, and in the race, this allowed us to close the gap to the other Yamahas. Unfortunately, we had to deal with the high temperatures, which created some problems for our bike and reduced our speed. This evening, the team will try to make some changes to the bike to be able to do better tomorrow.”
🗣️ “After struggling to find the right setup in FP3, we made some important changes before Superpole that made us more competitive. Race 1 was challenging, especially at the beginning with the rear tire, but the feeling improved lap after lap. Overall, the feeling with the bike was good, and tomorrow I need to push harder in the early laps to stay with the faster group.”
