Cambiare il racconto.
Lei è Cole Brauer. Ha 29 anni, americana, è l’unica donna in gara nella Global Solo Challenge.
E sta conquistando il mondo. Non solo con la vela, ma con i suoi reel su Instagram.
Perché lei sta cambiando il racconto.
Trasforma l’immagine eroica che vuole la solo affrontare tempeste e onde alte. Pericolo e adrenalina.
La vela per lei è soprattutto .
È la sua forza del desiderio.
Nel video che ha postato a San Valentino, si vede lei che balla in coperta e al timone, con la musica di Benson Boon. Ecco il testo che accompagna il ballo: “Questo giorno di San Valentino lo dedico a tutte le che inseguono i loro sogni, che cantano, che prendono la vita per la gola e che non si adattano mai al modello di fiori e scatola di cioccolatini. Salute a tutte voi”.
Cole vuole rompere quell’aria di tradizione vetusta e stantia nella vela, che lo vede uno sport soprattutto maschile.
Vuole spingere le veliste e le navigatrici a scoprire di esserlo e che si può.
Tutto questo accompagnato da un grande talento. Cole è una eccellente velista. Diplomata alla East Hampton High School di Long Island, New York. Con la patente di comandante (100 tonn) presa nel 2018.
Cole vuole rompere gli stereotipi di questo sport.
Non sente il bisogno di ritrarsi come fosse una versione maschile di sé.
Le barriere che vuole rompere sono quelle simboliche, non quelle fisiche di forza e resistenza.
Gareggia perfino su una barca che ha cambiato nome, si chiamava Dragon.
Ora si chiama “First Light”.

Not only is she conquering the world of , but she's also become an Instagram sensation with her reels.
That’s because she is changing the narrative.
Breaking the stereotypical image of the boat endlessly challenging storms and high waves. All about danger and adrenaline.
Sailing to her is mostly about .
It’s the drive of desire.
In her Valentine’s day video, we can see her dancing to the music of Benson Boon, on the deck while at sea. These are the words matching her dance: “This Valentine’s Day I am dedicating it to all the dream chasing, scream singing, grab life by the throat badass who never fit into the cookie cutter type of flowers and a box of chocolates. Cheers to all of you”
Cole wants to break the stale old-fashioned, male-oriented atmosphere in sailing.
She wants to push women sailors and women navigators towards the discovery of who they are and that they can.
All this is matched with a great talent. Cole is an excellent sailor. She’s a graduate of East Hampton High School in East Hampton, New York and earned her 100Ton Captains License in 2018.
Cole aims at breaking gender stereotypes in this sport.
She doesn’t feel the need to shrink back to a male version of herself.
She’s breaking symbolic barriers, not just physical ones.
She captains a boat that has changed name: it was called Dragon.
Now its name is “First Light”.
