In a previous post, we explained the reason behind our training and the General Adaptation Syndrome which we talked about earlier.

We mentioned that our body reacts to a stimulus and we get an adaptation in response.

Adding to that, it is important to note that if the stimulus (in this case, our training program) is not enough, we won't get any improvement. On the other hand, if it is just right, we will experience an improvement. However, if it is excessive, it can lead to a worsening scenario.

Therefore, choosing the correct stimulus is crucial in achieving the desired results.

The fundamental functional movement of the week is... squat! 💪

Specific movements are designated as "fundamental" in physical training for a reason.

These foundational exercises, such as the squat, lay the groundwork for movement competency and overall functional fitness.

Mastering the squat enhances lower body strength and contributes to a balanced and resilient physique.
There are a few factors affecting this movement. If some of these factors are not in place, we should work on those instead of forcing an incorrect squat technique.

Elevate your training by embracing the fundamental squat! 🚀

⚠️ One of the most common mistakes sailing coaches make is to focus on the new "best" exercise rather than establishing a proper program structure.

This is known as the "new best exercise" syndrome.
Avoid it, and ensure your program is full of "meaningful exercises" instead! Let the trendy stuff to influencers.

It is essential to question everything you do and find a valid reason.

Many athletes and coaches tend to follow old habits or new trends without considering the logic behind them.

Thus, it is advisable to keep asking questions and seeking answers to better understand the purpose behind your actions.

Smooth seas don't make skilled sailors, and neither do rushed progressions. ⛵️🌊

Dive into the art of coaching with the correct progression for skill mastery.

From mastering a squat to navigating the winds, every step counts.

Learning a new skill is a gradual process involving several steps, each with varying difficulty and complexity levels. It is never a good idea to rush through the process as it can lead to incorrect movement patterns or timing, making it harder to correct them later on. Going back to fix those patterns can cause additional stress and difficulty, so it's best to take your time and learn the skill properly from the beginning.

Patiently guide your sailors through the correct progression and watch them set sail towards expertise. 🌬️⚓

Why do we train? 🤔

Yes, we're speaking of the principle upon which every kind of workout or training session is built.

A funny and great scientist, Hans Selye, discovered it in 1956 and called it General Adaptation Syndrome.

⚠️ It's a simple but really strong principle. ⚠️

Each coach should keep it in mind during any training and programming session.

Would you like to discover it?

👉 Write "Selye" in the comment, and we'll forward you a short video lesson about it.

The measures of muscular fitness in the youth population over the years have decreased.

⛵🏆⛵ The skills level of the competitive sailors is increased.

As sailing coaches, we are just in the middle of this paradox.

👉 We need to fill this gap! ⚠️

Our job is to improve the youth's fitness and skills to let them reach the high-level requests in our world.
