🇮🇹 Nessuno ha lasciato un segno nell’Open d’Italia quanto Auguste Boyer, il campione francese capace di imporsi più volte nel torneo. Dopo il primo trionfo a Stresa nel 1926, tornò a dominare sui fairway di Villa d’Este, conquistando altre tre vittorie nel 1928, 1930 e 1931.
Considerato il miglior giocatore europeo tra le due guerre mondiali, Boyer univa uno swing raffinato a uno straordinario timing. Non era tra i più potenti dal tee, ma compensava con un gioco corto eccezionale, che lo rendeva pressoché imbattibile attorno ai green. Fu proprio questa dote a spingerlo ai vertici di questo sport, permettendogli di conquistare undici titoli tra il 1926 e il 1936.
Nato nei pressi di Nizza, nel club cittadino fu prima caddie, poi caddie master, quindi professionista giocatore e maestro. All’insegnamento si dedicò completamente nell’ultima parte della sua carriera, ma già nel 1930 pubblicava il libro di tecnica Le Golf.
🇬🇧 No player has left a greater mark on the Italian Open than Auguste Boyer, the French champion who claimed the title a record number of times. After his first victory at Stresa in 1926, he returned to dominate the fairways of Villa d’Este, securing three further triumphs in 1928, 1930, and 1931.
Widely regarded as the finest European golfer of the interwar years, Boyer combined an elegant swing with extraordinary timing. While he was never the longest hitter off the tee, he more than compensated with an exceptional short game that made him basically unbeatable around the greens. It was this remarkable touch that propelled him to the pinnacle of the sport, earning him eleven major tournament victories between 1926 and 1936.
Born near Nice, Boyer began his career at his local golf club as a caddie before becoming caddie master, then a playing professional and golf instructor. Teaching eventually became his primary focus in the latter part of his career, though his passion for sharing the game was evident much earlier, with the publication of his instructional book Le Golf in 1930.
