Monday morning, my phone rings.
“Alex, it’s Andy. I’m in Naples—they invited me as a special guest for a Bare Knuckle event. What do you say? Want to grab a coffee?”
When the person calling you is Andy Souwer, it’s never just another phone call. He’s one of the greatest legends our sport has ever seen—the kickboxing equivalent of what Roberto Baggio is to Italian football. But beyond that, he’s someone with whom I’ve built genuine friendship, mutual respect, and admiration over the years.
From that phone call, just a few days later, came a private, closed-door training session created to share technique, experience, and mindset with those who truly wanted to be there.
Some showed up. Some realized too late. Others chose to ghost the opportunity, perhaps without understanding the value of what was right in front of them. But opportunities like this don’t wait for anyone.
Thank you, Andy, for coming to our camp, for your generosity, and for your friendship. Having you on our mats was an honor we’ll never forget.
And if this is only July, be ready.
September is just around the corner.
We won’t wait for those who arrive late.
A heartfelt thank you, as always, to my brother, Maurizio Troiano.
