The Scientific Revolution of Dancesport: The Cacciari Model
Over the last decades, dancesport has undergone a profound methodological transformation. Thanks to the research, innovation and development work promoted by Davide Cacciari and Olga Garshina Cacciari, the technique of the competitive dancer has progressively evolved from a predominantly empirical practice into a discipline supported by scientific criteria from the most advanced methodologies of sports science.
This paradigm shift has found one of its most significant expressions in the academic organisation of the DanceSport Academy (DSA) and Institute (DSI), led by Fabio and Marina Bosco, where applied research, technical education, athletic preparation and methodological development have been integrated into a multidisciplinary model aimed at sporting excellence.
The objective pursued by the Cacciaris has been to transfer into dancesport the principles of modern athletic preparation, biomechanics, exercise physiology and performance psychology, creating an educational system capable of combining scientific rigour, artistic expression and competitive performance.

The Role of Dr. Peter Maxwell in the Development of the Cacciari Method
Among the personalities who have made the greatest contribution to the evolution of contemporary dancesport, Dr. Peter Maxwell stands out as a figure of extraordinary importance. His technical, cultural, and methodological contribution constituted one of the fundamental elements in the birth, development, and consolidation of the method developed by Davide Cacciari and Olga Garshina Cacciari.
From the very early stages of the project’s development, Dr. Maxwell was able to recognize the innovative potential of an approach aimed at overcoming the limitations of empirical tradition in order to introduce into dancesport the most advanced principles of sports science and performance art. Thanks to his international experience, gained at the highest levels of education and applied research, he provided a decisive contribution in guiding the work toward a rigorous and coherent methodological structure capable of combining technical effectiveness, artistic expression, and athletic development.
Beyond his role as a consultant, Dr. Maxwell represented a true intellectual and methodological guide. His ability to combine academic expertise, practical experience, and a profound understanding of athletes’ needs made it possible to translate complex concepts into practical and effective tools, directly applicable to the competitive reality of dancesport.
Particularly significant was his ability to transmit a culture of research, study, and continuous innovation. Through his professional example and constant support, he helped foster a new mindset based on critical analysis, systematic observation, and the continuous improvement of teaching and training methodologies.
Dr. Maxwell’s personal qualities also had a profound impact on the development of the project. His charisma, authority, and extraordinary ability to motivate collaborators, coaches, and athletes created an environment conducive to growth, experimentation, and the pursuit of excellence, contributing decisively to the establishment and dissemination of the method.
Today, many of the principles that characterize the modern technical and artistic preparation of the competitive dancer find inspiration in the work carried out under his guidance and with his contribution. His cultural and methodological legacy continues to influence coaches, researchers, and athletes, representing a point of reference for all those who believe in a form of dancesport capable of uniting art, sport, knowledge, and innovation.
For these reasons, the name of Dr. Peter Maxwell occupies a place of absolute prestige in the history of modern dancesport and in the developmental journey of the Cacciari Method, of which he has been one of the most authoritative supporters, inspirers, and key figures.

The Scientific Department and the Contribution of Professor Furio Barba
A central element of this model is the Scientific Department directed by Professor Furio Barba, a leading figure in the field of training methodology and applied sports sciences.
His work is based on the rigorous application of the principles of exercise physiology, biomechanics and athletic preparation to the technical actions of the dancer.
The objective is not only to improve performance, but to understand and optimise the mechanisms that determine it through scientific evaluation tools such as:
• Functional tests for the analysis of aerobic and anaerobic capacity;
• Monitoring of metabolic power and resistance to exertion;
• Postural and biomechanical assessments;
• Injury prevention and muscular rebalancing programmes;
• Periodised training planning according to models used in high-level sports disciplines.
Through these tools it is possible to build personalised training pathways aimed at continuous performance improvement and the protection of the athlete's health.

The Role of Athletic Preparation: Marco Cavacini
Alongside scientific research and methodological development, athletic preparation represents one of the fundamental pillars of the Cacciari Model.
In this field, Marco Cavacini, known within the sporting environment by his nickname "Rambo", has played a decisive role in the development of physical conditioning programmes for high-level athletes.
His work focuses on improving functional strength, speed, specific endurance, joint mobility and recovery capacity through methodologies borrowed from Olympic sports and adapted to the requirements of competitive dancesport.
The integration of athletic preparation, scientific monitoring and technical training has contributed to creating a working system capable of maximising performance while reducing the risk of injury.

The Four Pillars of the Scientific Model
1. Performance Analysis and Biomechanics
Movement is studied through objective and measurable parameters. The analysis of kinetic chains, force distribution and centre-of-mass management makes it possible to optimise technical efficiency and reduce energy wastage.
In Latin dances this translates into more effective management of accelerations and rotations; in Standard dances into greater fluidity of progression and movement through space.
2. Physiology of Specific Effort
Dancesport competitions require high metabolic performance. Multiple consecutive rounds performed at high intensity demand an optimal balance between aerobic and anaerobic energy systems.
Through interval training protocols and metabolic conditioning, the dancer develops the ability to maintain high levels of performance even during the final stages of competition.
3. Sports Nutrition and Recovery
Nutrition is considered a strategic component of performance. Nutritional programmes are developed according to training loads, recovery requirements and the individual characteristics of the athlete.
Particular attention is given to restoring energy reserves, hydration and optimising body composition.
4. Performance Psychology and Partnership Synergy
Dancesport is a unique discipline in which the technical component must integrate perfectly with the relational component.

The Instrumentation Research Department
The Instrumentation Research Department, managed by engineer Claudio Correggioli, develops new and sophisticated monitoring and measurement technologies aimed at detecting physiological and biomechanical parameters that until now have not been fully quantifiable.
This area represents an advanced frontier of the scientific model, as it enables increasingly precise objective data to be integrated into training and performance evaluation processes.
________________________________________
The Performance Psychology Department
The Performance Psychology Department, directed by Dr Mattia Cuocci, represents a fundamental component of the Cacciari Model.
Its role is to provide advanced specialist support to dancers, with particular attention to the cognitive, emotional and relational aspects of competitive performance.
The department's activities focus on developing the mental skills necessary for competition management, including:
• Mental training and the development of competitive concentration;
• Management of performance anxiety;
• Enhancement of psychological resilience;
• Development of effective communication within the partnership;
• Consolidation of psychological harmony between partners.
Through this structured approach, the mental dimension becomes an integral part of the training process, directly influencing the quality of performance.
The department's work contributes decisively to improving athletes' ability to express their full potential under conditions of maximum competitive pressure.

Recognition from the Local Community: Molinella, City of Dance
The impact of the Cacciari Model has not manifested itself solely on a sporting, scientific and educational level, but has also generated significant benefits for the local area.
In recognition of its role in promoting and developing international dancesport, the Municipality of Molinella adopted the designation "Molinella City of Dance", celebrating a reality that over the years has become a point of reference for athletes, coaches and professionals from all over the world.
Thanks to the activities of the DSA, DSI and the structures connected to the Cacciari Model, the town regularly welcomes athletes, coaches and industry professionals from numerous countries, confirming its international vocation.
This constant flow of visitors has contributed to transforming Molinella into a recognised centre of excellence within the world dancesport landscape, consolidating its image as a meeting place for education, innovation, research and high performance.
