🇵🇹 WCS26 — FINAL RANKING & THE STORY OF THE CHAMPIONSHIP
The Senior Float World Championship — the oldest and most prestigious competition in freshwater match fishing — has come to an end.
For six days, the Float Elite Report team did everything possible to bring you the action and stories directly from Coruche, where 2️⃣1️⃣ nations competed on the banks of the Sorraia River for two world titles and four further medals.
Let us take a brief look back at what happened over the past week.

After 13 years, England are back on top of the world.
Before the presentation ceremony, we saw with our own eyes just how much this victory meant to Will Raison.
Lee Kerry can also look back on one of the finest years of his career. At 🇮🇪EURO26, he helped England claim silver as second captain. He then celebrated a world title as an angler at 🇭🇷WCCFEEDER26, before taking on a new role at the head of the England team and once again standing on top of the world at 🇵🇹WCS26.
The 2026 FIPSed season has been a huge success for English competitive angling.
But let us also talk about the fishing, because England did not simply become World Champions — they won the title with a dominant performance.
After finishing Day 1 with 22 points, they could begin the second round with genuine hope. However, making up six points on Hungary and seven on the Czech Republic still looked like a very difficult task.
What happened on Day 2 proved once again that this team can never be written off — especially in Coruche, where England’s record over the past 16 years has been flawless.
A remarkable 13-point second day followed, and we can confidently say that England were the only team to fully solve the Coruche venue at WCS26.

🥈🇨🇿 TEAM CZECH REPUBLIC 🇨🇿
4️⃣3️⃣ pts (15–28) — 42.910 g
After their podium finishes in 2021 and 2022, the Czech Republic returned to the WCS team podium following a three-year absence.
During official training, we shared a few videos of the Czech team catching well with every technique. With anglers of this calibre, they clearly had to be considered among the contenders.
Even so, their Day 1 performance surprised us.
With the most consistent fishing of the opening round and an incredible total of only 15 points, the Czech Republic led the World Championship after the first day.
Despite that advantage, they were ultimately unable to secure the first team world title in their history. Nevertheless, this remains an outstanding result and another demonstration of the Czech team’s strength.
On a venue requiring whip, pole and match-rod fishing, they showed that they are capable of finishing ahead of many of the strongest nations in the world.

🥉🇭🇺 TEAM HUNGARY 🇭🇺

For the first time since 2019, Hungary returned to the WCS team podium.
After Day 1, the Hungarian team appeared to be in the strongest position to challenge for the world title. They completed the main C–D–E section of the venue with an incredible six points, added a section win in B, and only a difficult draw in A pushed their total above ten points.
Day 2 did not go as smoothly as the opening round. England found the perfect solution, while several other teams also discovered the right approach, making another exceptional team score much harder to achieve.
Nevertheless, Hungary can be extremely proud. After an enormous amount of work and two consecutive fourth-place finishes, they fully deserved their place on the podium.
Perhaps the strongest Hungarian team of recent years arrived at WCS26 — and this bronze medal confirmed its quality.

👤 INDIVIDUAL RANKING 👤
🥇JOSÉ ALFONSO GARCÍA PARDO“SITO” 🇪🇸
2️⃣ pts — 12.990 kg
Following Spain’s individual gold medal on home soil in 2023, another Spanish angler has now succeeded in Portugal.
As the only competitor to finish the championship with a perfect two-point score, Sito became World Champion as clearly the best-performing angler on the venue at WCS26.

We did not choose those words by accident.
We have attended several world championships, but we have never seen an entire team celebrate an individual medal with such emotion despite missing out on a team medal. Every angler, captain and member of staff celebrated as if the medal were their own.
Spain may have finished WCS26 with one gold medal, but during the ceremony, it felt as though 16 gold medals had been awarded.
A truly amazing group of people.

🥈 RAMON ANSING 🇳🇱

Ramon Ansing is perhaps the definition of a complete angler.
World No. 1 in Classic Feeder and a multiple individual medallist in FIPSed float championships, Ramon continues to demonstrate his quality across different disciplines at the highest international level.
We particularly want to highlight his performance in the second round. From A9 — one of the most difficult draws in his sub-section — Ramon still produced a two-point result, despite A1 proving unbeatable throughout the entire week.
That makes his podium finish even more impressive.

🥉 WILL RAISON 🏴

We feel that William Raison needs no introduction.
He has been one of the defining members of the England team for decades, and English competitive angling owes an enormous amount to him. Very few people can match the work, energy and preparation that Will has invested in international competition throughout his career.
But there is one record that deserves special attention.
Three FIPSed championships on the Sorraia River: two European Championships and one World Championship.
Three individual podium finishes. 🤯
That record unquestionably makes Will Raison the most successful individual angler in the history of the Sorraia River venue.
