Many days already passed since I have finished my circumnavigation of Sicily. I took my time to relax and reflect on my trip and it's seems there is still a lot to process! What I would like to do is to describe to you the last phase of my circumnavigation, the time when I thought I might actually not be able to finish, despite the fact I was so close to closing the loop. I am not entirely sure how to bring this ongoing last stage of my journey back to you. I have written about the routine and the forced rest days, but all of it seemed to already drift away somewhere. The days started to merge, the nights are getting confused. The hours spent on the water feel as if there was no break for sleep in between them anymore. [ 288 more words ]

After three days of chilling and sightseeing in Palermo I get back on the water. I can't wait to finally get to the west coast - it's supposed to be the most beautiful part of the coastline, at the same time the most exposed to wind and swell. The weather had been kind to me for the first two weeks, but now it seems to unleash it's winter potential, bringing one storm after another. [ 1,077 more word ]

One night away from Palermo! Soon I'll be "home" - news about my circumnavigation are traveling fast and I'm being invited in by the local paddling club from Mondello. For a few days now I've been in contact with Giacomo that will paddle out to meet me when I'm approaching the club's base. But first things first. I leave the campsite and I start to paddle towards the rafinery which opens another chapter of industrial coastline for me. [ 682 more words ]

This piece written by Tom Moose Kilpatrick is a great read. We can never really know how we influence other people, that's why it's so important to do our best every single day, as guides, as coaches and as people.

The second week has felt quite eventful even though it's been mainly just paddling. After the day in Tonnarella I continue with fresh energy, hitting 47km on the first day after the break. It makes me quite hopeful that I will be able to increase the daily distance enough to make a good time at the end of the trip. … [ 563 more words ]

On the day when I'm paddling through the Strait, the current runs at around 4 knots. Since I decided to sleep at the lighthouse I still need to make an upstream move towards the harbour's entrance. The current will be turning in my favour as I move north towards Capo Peloro. [ 458 more words ]

There is something very pleasant about waking up early in the morning and getting on the water while the sunrise illuminates everything around you. I have always had troubles with crawling out of my sleeping bag when it's still dark and cold but now I start to enjoy this race with the sunlight. I started to put little systems in place, to be more efficient and quick, just to be ready on time. [ 285 more words ]
