The 40 metre tall Gljúfrabúi is hidden behind a considerable cliff which faces out towards Iceland’s South Coast and the Atlantic Ocean. Because of its effective ‘hiding place’, Gljúfrabúi is overlooked by most travellers, even though thousands of people visit Seljalandsfoss, less than a kilometre away, every day.

A stream, the Gljúfurá, runs through a cleft in the cliff, and those who wish to approach the falls must do so by wading through these waters.

After a few metres of travelling through a narrow valley, a small space opens up, and here, Gljúfrabúi tumbles before a great boulder, which is easily climbable for some great photos. With the open sky above, mossy walls, silver mist and black lava, it is one of Iceland’s most breathtaking gems, seemingly from a fantasy story.

Gljúfrafoss est réellement un bijoux caché de l'Islande : en effet, la cascade disparaît dans la roche, et pour la découvrir, on est obligé de remonter un petit ruisseau, le Gljúfrabúi, en marchant sur quelques pierres dépassant de l'eau pour ne pas se mouiller les pieds.

Précaution inutile, car lorsque que l'on arrive à proximité de la cascade, on a l'impression de prendre une do**he !

Situated at the head of the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier, the Jökulsárlón lagoon developed into a lake after the glacier started receding from the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. The lake has grown since then at varying rates because of melting of the glaciers. It is now about 8 km (5.0 mi) away from the ocean's edge and covers an area of about 18 km2.

Jökulsárlón est une lagune glaciaire à la limite du parc national de Vatnajökull, dans le sud-est de l'Islande. Ses eaux bleues paisibles sont parsemées d'icebergs provenant du glacier Breiðamerkurjökull environnant, qui constitue une partie du glacier plus grand de Vatnajökull. La lagune s'écoule par un petit chenal vers l'océan Atlantique, abandonnant au passage des morceaux de glace sur une plage de sable noir. En hiver, la lagune poissonneuse accueille des centaines de phoques.

Glymur Waterfall is located amidst the most beautiful lush Botnsdalur Valley and majestically stands with a height of 198 m, being the highest waterfall in Iceland until 2011 when it was dethroned by Morsárfoss waterfall. Spend an exhilarating day of hiking at the Glymur Waterfall amidst the lush green valley accompanying you throughout the trail. This grand waterfall is located nearly 40 miles away from the west of Reykjavik. Glymur is indeed one of the hidden gems of Iceland. The complete hike takes around 4 hours of walking through the rocky surface, climbing, crossing the rivers, and wading through the caves that surely give adrenaline rush !

La cascade Glymur se situe dans la luxuriante vallée Botnsdalurp qu'elle domine de ses 198m de haut. Considérée jusqu'en 2011 comme la plus haute cascade d'Islande avant d'être détrôner par Morsárfoss en 2011, la cascade se situe à 60 kilomètres de la capitale Reykjavik. Gylmur est l' un des joyaux cachés du pays, et demande quelques efforts pour l'admirer, comme traverser une rivières sur un tronc d'arbre.

No, you won’t find any diamonds at Diamond Beach, so put your assessor’s loupe away. It’s called Diamond Beach because the sand here is scattered with shards and orbs of ice that sparkle as clear as diamond. The ice made its way down from the nearby Breiðamerkurjökull glacier. The slow melt of the glacier causes ice to float and form in the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon before slowly making its way to the shore. It rests on the sand here, creating a beautiful scene, before being pulled out to sea.

Vous ne trouverez pas de pierre précieuse sur la plage aux diamants. Son nom vient des nombreux éclats et morceaux de glace que l'on retrouve échoué sur le sable noir. Cette glace vient du glacier Breiðamerkurjökull. La fonte de celui alimente le lagon glaciaire Jökulsárlón, lequel débouche sur une plage de sable noir où viennent terminer ces diamants d'eau, avant d'être emporté par la marée.

This summer, I had the chance to visit Island. This is the first picture of a serie of 7 that I will share with you.

This waterfall is Goðafoss. It's nicknamed the “Waterfall of the Gods.” Some believe that the name comes from the fact that the waterfall is god-like in beauty. However, an old Icelandic legend tells the tale of the waterfall’s name through a Viking leader named Þorgeir Ljósvetningagoði.

Þorgeir is said to have had  thrown his Pagan statues into the waterfall, resulting in its name. No one really knows the accurate story of the waterfall’s name but leaving it as a mystery might also play a part in keeping it mythic.

Cet été, j' ai eu le plaisir de visiter l'Islande. Voici la première image d'une série de 7 que je vous proposerai cette semaine.

Cette cascade se surnomme Goðafoss, la cascade des dieux. Certains pensent que ce nom vient du fait de ma beauté presque mystique du lieu.

Une autre légende raconte qu' un chef viking, Þorgeir Ljósvetningagoði, y aurait jeté ses effigies païennes quand il s'est converti. Personne ne connaît la véracité de cette histoire, et ce mystère donne une ambiance mythique à ce paysage.
