We made it 🙂
After 9 days we reached our final destination the city of Akureyri on the Eyjafjörður and covered 363,5 km starting from Kötlutangi, the most southern point of Iceland. Super happy about getting it done but also excited for the next days that we use to explore some other parts of the country. Running mode off - roadtripping mode on 😁 bring it on, Iceland 🇮🇸 🤙

Off the Highlands and back to civilization
Stage no 8 was down the Eyjafjarðardalur, the valley that ends up at the Eyjafjörður - the fjord in the North which marks the end of the project that I plan to reach after day 9. Another rainy day but I have to say the atmosphere was just amazing - running down the valley in that low cloud base was quite an experience I won't forget. Lunchbreak inbetween was in the car to get some food prepared by my dad as well as get to change my clothes for the afternoon session. Since yesterday's run I have some pain on my shin, most likely shin splints - inflammation due to overuse. Feels uncomfortable but I will keep pushing for the final stage 9. Afterwards the body will get some rest 💪😉

Hot spring fun after rainy run
The geothermal hot springs are a real treat after a long run.
Especially when you have a great scenery around the pool like in this case. In general local pools and hot tubs take a central role in the social life of Icelanders where they gather with friends and discuss world matters instead of going to the pub. Another 41km covered on Day 7 and already excited about the next one.

Day 6 brought us directly between the glaciers in central Iceland - Vatnajökull and Tungnafellsjökull to the East and Hofsjökull to the West. Quite barren landscape with a big contrast to the retreating glaciers are quite picturesque - sadly the colorful soil and rocks that are visible now, were previously covered by glaciers - the effects and signs of global warming.

Welcome to the central highlands
We passed the halfway mark on day 5 and what I wanted to explain on the video was that I move northwards mostly along the Sprengisandur or also called F26 road and do some short-cuts through no man's land. We are located now inbetween the 2 glaciers Vatnajökull to the East and Hofsjökull to the West. The landscape today wasn't as versatile as in the past days but still quite interesting to experience that part of the route. Despite the wind I can't complain too much about the weather - we know it could be way worse in that area 😉

Running surface versatility
Day 4 was quite a treat for the eyes and the legs as well 😉 stopping for the views + taking pictures or videos on a regular base made the distance covering bit slower but extremely enjoyable. Also the changes of surfaces I get to run on makes it really fun and feels good for legs - gravel, rock, mud, sand + river crossings. As it is bright pretty much the whole day around that time of the year up here, there's no hurry to get to the next turnpoint before it's getting dark. Another day of great impressions in the pocket and the body still feels good 💪🙂

Colorful Iceland
The Landmannalaugar area is quite well-known for its beauty. I stopped basically after every turn and hill as the views were just spectacular. Running around in that part of Iceland was a real treat and we also have been lucky with the weather conditions. Another amazing thing you will find all over the country are the hot springs and geothermal pools, some natural ones (like here in Landmannalaugar) as well as artificial ones - what a great way to relax after some running

Changing environments after every hill
Despite the rather small size of the country, Iceland has a lot of different landscapes to offer. Such a versatility in a concentrated way is quite rare. Especially this day, I was amazed by all the different things this treasure island has to offer.

Great running and nice surroundings
On the 2nd running stage the conditions were perfect for running - nice temperature as well as sun. The incredible area was also quite breathtaking but check out the pics yourself. After today's stage, which was rather short, we took some time for a hike to explore the close-by Eldgjá canyon. What a wonderful day here in Iceland.

Myrdalsjökull in sight
Quite happy about the first running day of the trip. Started off the black sand beach at Kötlutangi and headed northwards always the Myrdalsjökull in proximity as we pass it on the Eastern flanks. Ran across some deserted zones but also passed some nice farms in the area. Great start - hope it continues that way 😉💪

Getting used to Icelandic conditions
We are well aware of the tough weather conditions in Iceland and tried to get prepared for it. Weather can change quite quickly and when it's bad, we talk about heavy winds and horizontal rain. We had the pleasure to experience it already but hoping for the best for the upcoming (running) days. In some cases the landscape is even more dramatic and picturesque, so we also appreciate these kind of conditions and value the good days even more.
