Special Olympics Bharat is an NGO that organizes Olympic-type sports for persons with intellectual disabilities . While sports remains the mainstay, the capacity of the athletes is constantly developed through regular trainings and additional initiatives that help strengthen the athletes- mentally , physically emotionally.

Glimpses from NCC Preparatory Camp 1 – SKF Gothia Cup held at CDS Gwalior from May 15–24, 2026. Throughout the camp, athletes participated in structured warm-up drills, technical training sessions, fitness conditioning and team-building exercises as part of their preparation for the upcoming Gothia Cup 2026.

Special Olympics Bharat – Rajasthan State Chapter conducted a State Level Coaches Training Program, in Ajmer district, on May 16, in association with Minu Manovikas Kendra.

The program focused on strengthening coaching knowledge and skills to support athlete development and promote inclusive sports practices for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

National Coaching Preparatory Camp 2 for Bocce & Powerlifting was conducted by Special Olympics Bharat - Uttar Pradesh Chapter, supported by Prometheus School, from 11 to 20 May. The camp brought together athletes and coaches for intensive training sessions focused on skill enhancement, strength building and overall preparation for upcoming competitions.

We would like to thank Prometheus school for their contribution and support for the camp.

Special Olympics Bharat – Jharkhand State Chapter conducted the District Youth & School Summit at Shiksha Niketan with the participation of 50+ individuals, including students, staff members and volunteers.

The summit focused on youth leadership and fostering inclusive school environments through unified engagement and advocacy. It also aimed at strengthening essential skills such as public speaking, teamwork, decision-making and leadership among participants. The session received an encouraging response from both students and the school administration, who also expressed interest in future collaborations.

The FIH Level 2 Coach Training Program – Hockey was conducted from May 20–24, 2026, in Gurugram for coaches, focusing on advancing technical knowledge, coaching methodologies and athlete development in hockey.

The program was led by Mr. Coen Putten, FIH Coach Educator and former Sports Director, Special Olympics Asia Pacific, Singapore, along with Mr. Piyush Kumar Dubey, former coach of the Indian Men’s Hockey Team during its bronze medal victory at the 2020 Summer Olympics. Their guidance provided valuable learning and practical insights for participating coaches.

Under the Bezos Grant, engaging activities like art and zumba were conducted on May 11, 2026, at Ananth Centre for Learning and Development, with the participation of 40+ students. The sessions encouraged creativity, active participation and inclusive interaction, creating a joyful environment for all participants.

As we gear up for the Special Olympics Unified World Cup and the Gothia Cup, Special Olympics Bharat celebrates World Football Day, recognising the powerful cultural and social impact of sport in bringing people together through inclusion.

Athletes, coaches and unified partners are engaging in continuous training sessions, focused preparation and collaborative teamwork for upcoming international events. These efforts show their dedication, discipline and commitment towards advancing the spirit of inclusion through sport.

Under the Bezos Grant, unified engagement activities were conducted on May 15, 2026, at Ornea Special School with the active participation of 20+ students. Students took part in unified art and Zumba activities that promoted self-expression, active participation and inclusive peer engagement.

Special Olympics Bharat – Jammu State Chapter, in collaboration with Sudan Dental Clinic, organised a Dental Checkup and Awareness Camp on May 14, 2026, at Model Institute of Education & Research.
The camp engaged 20+ special athletes along with parents and school staff, focusing on oral healthcare awareness, preventive dental care and the importance of maintaining dental hygiene. Participants also received dental screenings and guidance on oral health practices.

Under the Bezos Grant, unified engagement activities were conducted at Ignited Minds Special School on May 13, 2026. Students participated in inclusive art and Zumba sessions, encouraging creativity, movement and meaningful social interaction amongst themselves.
