We thought about this for a long time before communicating about it. Would it resonate with people? Would it be appreciated, or simply seen as another trend? But then, we had to look at what coffee means to us.
Coffee has always been a big part of our lives. It’s the first step of the morning, something that brings back memories, but also, somehow, our love language.
I remember the happiness a good coffee could bring before or after practice. Calculating the timing of the morning accordingly (and even if I run late, I would find a way to create time). The comforting feeling on a bad day. The smile of the barista that know your preference. Ordering coffee for a friend and waiting for them to arrive (and vice versa).
And maybe because I missed that feeling and that taste, I started becoming curious. Learning about coffee beans, taking training, educating my palate and understanding what actually goes into a good cup of coffee.
Specialty coffee is booming everywhere. It can easily become a trend or a marketing tool, and that brought up many questions about how we wanted to position this space in Varkala.
But some things felt obvious. We wanted to know where our coffee comes from, to understand the process behind it, to work with quality beans, that we love drinking, keep learning, researching, tasting, and hopefully getting better year after year.
At the same time, yoga and the community around it remain at the heart of Kind. We want the space to stay intimate, warm, and somewhere you can actually spend time.
So, we have the beans. We have the machine. We’re working on the menu (and for the people who don’t like coffee, we got your back !). We’re collaborating with an incredible soul for daily cakes. There will be Wi-Fi, good music (Spotify is working hard as we speak), and coffee ready before Pawan’s morning Hatha class.
