MARAM FC scripts new chapter for Garo Hills football in Meghalaya State League
Williamnagar, May 12: MARAM FC has created a significant milestone for football in the Garo Hills region after booking a place in the Quarter Finals of the Meghalaya State League with a hard-fought win over Seng Samla Umdang Pyllun in the pre-quarterfinal round at Mawkyrwat on Monday.
The Tura-based side secured a narrow 1-0 victory, with Tremachwal Ch. Marak emerging as the hero of the match after finding the back of the net in the 68th minute. The crucial strike proved enough to send MARAM FC into the last eight of the tournament and sparked celebrations among football fans across Garo Hills.
With the triumph, MARAM FC now stands as the lone representative from Garo Hills to reach the Quarter Finals of this year’s Meghalaya State League. The competition will now move into the next phase featuring eight teams from different parts of the state, divided into Group A and Group B. MARAM FC has been drawn in Group B and is scheduled to begin its quarterfinal campaign on May 14.
The achievement also marks a rare moment in the history of football from the region. MARAM FC has become only the third club from Garo Hills to progress to the Quarter Finals of the Meghalaya State League. Earlier, Druma Sandruma FC and Chipakore FC had reached the same stage in previous editions.
