There is a gap ...in-between the inhalation and exhalation... a pause... its time less... it is when practice has made the whole acts proceeding the intention of shooting, so natural , like your breath.

While inhaling , the loaded bow is raised, drawn upto the anchor point , or the place of release... then ... it is released with the exhalation..

In the initial stage of shooting, you will notice that , some of us will pause at the release... some start to hesitate... an aiming.. a deliberation... a thought... mind is now acting... you are coming in between.

That gap between the breath... the gap between the draw and release...should be as effort less as breathing...

The natural breathing is about effortlessness.

A choicelessness... a state of no intention or effort.

The decision has already been made when you nocked the bow and looked at the target... the rest is just motion... trust it..

Its in that gap .... that moment when you stand without time... a place in-between. There is a presence of the doer sans mind and thought...

That's the spirit of an archer...

They are then the whole movement ...

There's no separation from the act and the actor

Zen in motion.

What is known as Mediterranean draw is known as eklavya mushti among the practitioners of dhanurvidya.

The story of Ekalavya comes to us from the mahabharat.

Ekalavya was a young tribal lad from the bhil tribe. His station did not permit him to learn archery from Drona, who was the tutor of the pandavas and the kauravas.

So Ekalavya established drona as his guru by making a statue of him and then practising what he learnt by secretly watching Drona teaching the princes.

One day , when the princes were going hunting in the forest, they encountered Ekalavya, silencing a barking dog by shooting arrows into the dogs mouth without hurting the dog.

Upon enquiry, Drona comes to know that he had taken Drona as his sankalpa guru and demands Ekalavyas thumb as gurudikshana.

Hence, the bhill tribe , even to this day , only shoots using the 3 finger draw , not the highly popular Asian thumb draw, which is called Vajra mushti in dhanurvidya

* Dhanurveda does not mention any sort of restrictions for anyone practising archery. Infact it actually recognises tribal archery.
