good തിരുവനന്തപുരം നഗരത്തിൽ നിന്നും 8 കി.മീ അകലെ തിരുവനന്തപുരം അന്താരാഷ്ട്ര വിമാനത്താവളത്തിനു സമീപം സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ഒരു കടൽത്തീരമാണ് ശംഖുമുഖം. മത്സ്യകന്യക, നക്ഷത്രരൂപത്തിലുള്ള ഭക്ഷണശാല, കുട്ടികൾക്കുള്ള ട്രാഫിക് പാർക്ക് എന്നിവയാണ് പ്രധാന ആകർഷണങ്ങൾ.
നഗരത്തിന്റെ തിരക്കുകളിൽ നിന്ന് ഒഴിഞ്ഞ് ശാന്തമായ കടൽത്തീരവും വെളുത്ത മണൽത്തരികളും ഉള്ള ഇവിടം വിനോദസഞ്ചാരികളുടെയും സാ‍യാഹ്ന സവാരിക്കാരുടെയും ഒരു

പ്രധാന ആകർഷണ കേന്ദ്രമാണ്. “നക്ഷത്രമത്സ്യ ഭക്ഷണശാല” എന്ന ഒരു ഭക്ഷണശാലയും ഇവിടെ ഉണ്ട്. വളരെ വൃത്തിയുള്ളതാണ് ഈ കടൽത്തീരം. ജലത്തിൽ സ്കേറ്റിംഗ് പഠിപ്പിക്കുന്ന ഒരു വിദ്യാലയവും ഇവിടെ ഉണ്ട്. പ്രശസ്ത ശില്പിയായ കാനായി കുഞ്ഞിരാമൻ നിർമ്മിച്ച ജലകന്യക എന്ന ശില്പം ഇവിടെയാണ് സ്ഥാപിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്. ഈ ഭീമാകാരമായ പ്രതിമയ്ക്ക് 35 മീറ്റർ നീളമുണ്ട്.ജില്ലയിലെ പ്രസിദ്ധമായ ക്രിസ്തവദെവാലയമായ വെട്ടുകാട് പള്ളി ഇവിടെ നിന്ന് അൽപം അകലെയാണ് . കുട്ടികൾക്ക് ഗതാഗത ചിഹ്നങ്ങൾ പഠിക്കുന്നതിനുള്ള ‘ജവഹർലാൽ നെഹ്രു ഗതാഗത സിഗ്നൽ പാർക്ക്’ ഇവിടെയാണ്.

ഇന്ത്യൻ വായുസേനയുടെ തെക്കൻ നാവിക കമാന്റിന്റെ സൈനിക വിമാനത്താവളം ഇവിടെയാണ് സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നത്. പത്മനാഭസ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ അറാട്ടുത്സവം ഈ കടൽത്തീരതിലാണു നടന്നുവരുന്നത് .

Year after year the condition of the Shangumugham beach - one of the popular tourist spots in the state capital - is worsening due to severe sea erosion. A leisurely reposing gigantic mermaid, completely sculpted out of stone, is one of the major attractions of Shanghumugham beach in Thiruvananthapuram. Located 8 km from the city, this beach is a favourite haunt of sunset watchers. The Shanghumugham beach is near to the Thiruvananthapuram airport and Veli Tourist Village. The matsya kanyaka is a gigantic, 35 m long sculpture of a mermaid.
