Many people use muscle activation as a proxy for determining which exercises are best for developing certain muscle groups. Mechanical stress of a movement also should be considered
This study is a great example of this process at play โ subjects performed either half squat or full squat 2x/ week for 10 weeks. Previous research has shown that half squats are better at activating the glutes.
Full squats were shown to induce much more glute growth than half squats. Full squats impose a greater stress on the hip, meaning the glutes have to work harder in a full squat. If you want to develop a nice, round peach, do some deep squats!!
