Some moments don’t need words.

This picture is from a morning when my son, then about 5 years old, climbed into my lap, half-awake, seeking nothing but the comfort of being close.

No rush.
No demands.
Just the simple, powerful presence of love.

As I look at this today, I’m reminded that life’s real treasures are not always in achievements or milestones.

It is in quiet, sleepy hugs... in being someone's safe place.

Grateful for these precious, fleeting moments.

They teach me, every day, that true leadership—whether in family, work, or life—begins with being there with your whole heart.

As I reflect on my journey today, on my birthday, this post deeply resonates.

Leadership coaching is often compared to gym memberships.

Everyone agrees they work.
Yet most never use them.

The top reasons?
Too expensive!
Maybe later.
No time!

But the true cost is often overlooked—𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙘𝙤𝙨𝙩 𝙤𝙛 𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙮𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙨𝙩𝙪𝙘𝙠.

On this special day, I’m reminded of why I chose this path.

Years ago, I stood at a crossroads.

Comfortable in my marketing career, yet something felt incomplete.

I saw professionals with great potential unable to lead with clarity or courage.

Not for lack of skills.

But for lack of inner work.

That’s when The Leadership Challenge entered my life.

What began as a curiosity became a calling.

Today, I’m honored to be India’s only certified facilitator in The Leadership Challenge Program.

A role I carry with pride, purpose, and deep responsibility.

The journey hasn't always been easy, but it's been deeply fulfilling.

When Trust is Broken, Here's How a Leader Can Earn It Back

Trust is the foundation of any strong team — and when it’s shaken after a setback, leaders must work intentionally to rebuild it.

First, acknowledge the hurt. After the pandemic forced Airbnb to lay off 25% of its workforce, CEO Brian Chesky wrote a heartfelt letter to employees, openly acknowledging their pain and sacrifice. His empathy and transparency made employees feel seen and respected, even in the middle of deep disappointment.

Communicate openly. When Patagonia’s founder Yvon Chouinard announced he was giving away the company to fight climate change in 2022, he didn’t just announce the decision — he explained the 'why' behind it. Honest, detailed communication built massive trust, both inside and outside the organization.

Take responsibility. When Zoom faced backlash over security flaws at the peak of the pandemic, CEO Eric Yuan publicly apologized, outlined clear corrective actions, and took personal responsibility. Instead of hiding, he leaned into the criticism — and users appreciated the sincerity and urgency.

Plan together. After Bumble faced tough market conditions in 2023, newly appointed CEO Lidiane Jones involved employees in redesigning company priorities through town halls and listening sessions. Co-creating the path forward helped restore belief and energy across teams.

Show progress. When Shopify had to make tough layoffs in 2022, CEO Tobi Lütke didn’t just say things would get better — he followed up with strategic shifts and quick pivots that employees could actually see. Every small improvement helped rebuild credibility, step by step.

Reinforce values. When Delta Airlines faced operational chaos in 2021, CEO Ed Bastian repeatedly emphasized the company's customer-first values, even offering refunds and loyalty extensions without much red tape. Actions rooted in values sent a clear message: "We haven't forgotten who we are."

Setbacks are tough, but they don't have to define a team's future. With honesty, humility, collaboration, and visible action, leaders can turn even the hardest moments into powerful comebacks.

Every client brings their unique style to the table — and as a coach, adapting to it isn’t just helpful, it’s essential.

Over the years, I’ve learned a few powerful strategies that make all the difference:

✨ First, assess their style. Some clients want quick, crisp conversations; others prefer deeper, detailed discussions. I once coached a CEO who valued brevity, so I shifted to offering key insights up front, only diving deeper when asked. It made our sessions sharp and impactful.

✨ Active listening is non-negotiable. It's about tuning into not just words, but emotions and unspoken cues. In a leadership workshop with teenagers, one participant communicated in a very roundabout way. Through patient listening and thoughtful questions, I was able to uncover and support their true aspirations.

✨ Create feedback loops. Early in my journey, a client didn’t resonate with my initial style. Instead of guessing, I invited regular feedback — and together, we fine-tuned the coaching experience. Trust and results skyrocketed.

✨ Adapt your materials. A technical leader I coached preferred visuals and data. I swapped text-heavy discussions for charts and diagrams — instantly making the sessions more engaging and productive.

✨ Set clear expectations. Especially when working with diverse groups, like a cohort of women leaders I recently coached, laying out session structures and goals upfront created a sense of safety and clarity.

✨ And above all — stay flexible. Structure is important, but being willing to shift gears based on the client’s needs is where real coaching magic happens. Some of my best breakthroughs came when I let go of ‘how it should be’ and embraced ‘what the client truly needs.’

You won’t always make the right decisions, and that’s okay.

In leadership, and in life, there’s no perfect roadmap. Mistakes are inevitable, but here’s the beauty: every wrong decision holds a powerful lesson. It’s not about striving to always be right, but about being willing to learn, adapt, and grow every time things don’t go as planned.

Here’s why mistakes are essential:

1️⃣ Growth Through Reflection: Every wrong decision offers a chance to pause, reflect, and understand what went wrong. This reflection fosters personal and professional growth.

2️⃣ Building Resilience: Mistakes teach you resilience. They show you how to stand back up, recalibrate, and keep moving forward with more wisdom.

3️⃣ Opportunities for Innovation: Sometimes, a ‘wrong’ decision can lead to discovering new paths or solutions you hadn’t considered. Failures often become stepping stones to breakthroughs.

I don’t speak a lot. But when I do, I’m heard.

I wasn’t always like this.

There was a time I doubted my voice, over-explained my thoughts, or stayed silent in fear of judgment.

But leadership isn’t about being the loudest.

It’s about knowing when to speak—and believing that your words carry weight.

This presence?

It’s cultivated through self-belief, intentional growth, and the quiet confidence of executive presence.

Last year, during an executive coaching engagement, I met Aarav (name changed for confidentiality), a Senior Vice President at a leading tech firm.

On paper, Aarav had it all — a sharp mind, 20+ years of experience, and a seat at the leadership table.

Yet, he felt stuck.

Promotions stalled.

Influence slipping.

A persistent feeling of hitting an invisible ceiling.

During one of our sessions, I asked him a simple but powerful question:
“Where in your life are you holding back your voice?”

He paused. Then, quietly admitted:

"At home... I avoid tough conversations with my partner. I don't set boundaries with my kids. I try to keep peace by staying silent."

There it was.

The walls we build at home — walls of silence, avoidance, compromise — don’t magically vanish when we enter the boardroom.

They follow us.

And they show up as hesitation, second-guessing, and lost authority at work.

Over the next few months, Aarav courageously worked on rebuilding his personal foundation — communicating openly, leading with empathy and clarity at home.

Slowly, a visible shift happened at work too.

He started speaking up decisively in leadership meetings.

He stopped "managing" relationships and started leading them.

Today, he’s not just shattering ceilings — he's helping others do the same.

True leadership doesn’t start at the corner office.

It starts where we are most vulnerable — at home.
