Work On Cricket Stadiums To Start Shortly: Dr Farooq
JAMMU KASHMIR PREMIER LEAGUE T-20 CHAMPIONSHIP
Srinagar, July 28: The KC. Cricket Club, Jammu won the final of the Jammu Kashmir Premier League T-20 Cricket Tournament defeating Kashmir Gymkhana Cricket Club, Srinagar by one run in a keenly contested final played at the Sher-i-Kashmir Cricket Stadium, Sonawar, here on Thursday.
Governor N N Vohra, who was the Chief Guest at the prize distribution function, gave away prizes to the winner and the runner-up teams. He presented a trophy and Rs. 5 lakh cash prize to the winner, a trophy and Rs. 3 lakh cash prize to the runner-up team. He also gave away prizes to the individual players for their outstanding performances during the Tournament.
The J&K Cricket Association, affiliated to the Board of Control for Cricket in India, had organized this Cricket Tournament.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor observed that Jammu and Kashmir possesses tremendous sporting talent and given the enabling environment and sound coaching, they can excel in various games and sports of the national and international levels. He hoped that with the commissioning of services of Bishan Singh Bedi, an internationally renowned cricketer, by the J&K Cricket Association for coaching young cricketers, many players from the State would make it to the national team in the coming years.
The Governor complimented Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Dr. Farooq Abdullah, who is also President of the J&K Cricket Association, for setting up the JKPL and organizing the tournament, which, he hoped, would go a long way in promotion of the game in the State.
Dr. Farooq said that the work on the construction of cricket stadia of international standards, both in Jammu and Srinagar, would commence shortly.
Minister for School Education Peerzada Muhammad Sayeed, while congratulating the J&K Cricket Association for organizing the Cricket Tournament, said it would help to tap a good talent.
Earlier, on arrival at the Stadium, the Governor was received by Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Peerzada Muhammad Sayeed and functionaries of the J&K Cricket Association. He was also presented a memento by Dr. Farooq Abdullah on this occasion.
M Aslam Goni, Chairman and Ahsan Ahmad Mirza, General Secretary of the J&K Cricket Association also spoke on the occasion and gave details of the JKPL T-20 Tournament.
Earlier after winning the toss KC.C.C Jammu captain Dhruv Mahajan elected to bat and the team scored 139 runs for the loss of seven wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Shashi Kumar with 44 runs was the main scorer for KC.C.C while Aslam of Kashmir Gymkahana Cricket Club took 2 wickets. Chasing the target of 140 runs the Kashmir Gymkahana Cricket Club in a well fought batting spree lost the match by one run. Mohsin Mushtaq was the lead scorer for KG.C.C with 60 runs while Sahil and Ashwani of KC.C.C took 2 wickets each.
