A Class Apart!

Meghalaya's Akash K Choudhury and Dipankar Barua were individually honoured at the North East Cricket Development Council (NECDC) 5th Achievers' Nite 2026 recently, wonderfully hosted by the Manipur Cricket Association.

Akash received his Special Award for his record-breaking Ranji Trophy knock against Arunachal Pradesh last year, wherein he hit the fastest-ever Ranji half-century and 8 sixes in an over.

Dipankar was adjudged Best Wicketkeeper in the Men's U-23 category.

Meghalaya also received an award for winning the U-23 Men's State A Plate Group 2025-26 title, which was collected by MCA Vice-President Shri Rajiv Bareh and MCA Honorary Secretary Shri Rayonald Kharkamni.

The 11th NECDC Conclave was also held and, from Meghalaya, Shri Bareh and Shri Kharkamni were joined by former MCA President and NECDC Co-Convenor Shri Naba Bhattacharjee and former MCA Honorary Secretary Shri Gideon Kharkongor

A tough day at the ACACA Ground in Fulung, Guwahati, as our U-15 Girls fell narrowly to Mizoram by 4 wickets in today’s league fixture.

Batting first, Meghalaya posted 122/5 in 35 overs, with some gritty contributions down the order. Aviana Myrthong top-scored with a fluent 27 off 35 balls (6 fours), while Anuradha Gurung held firm with an unbeaten 25 off 44 to give the innings a solid finish.

With the ball, Aniesha Arengh was once again outstanding — figures of 2/16 in 7 miserly overs (eco: 2.29). Badphihirta L Nonglait was equally impressive with 1/9 in 5 overs, while Haphilahun Makri chipped in with 1/6.

Mizoram’s captain Remruati PC anchored their chase with a determined 66* off 100 balls, guiding her side home in 33.3 overs.

A close contest — and plenty of positives to build on.

A mesmerising spell of bowling by Aniesha Arengh (7/13) led Meghalaya to a 6-wicket victory against Sikkim in the 2nd North East Rising Cup 2026 for U-15 girls in Guwahati today.

Sikkim batted first after losing the toss and were all out for 59 in 18.2 overs (of an allotted 35) as they were unable to cope with Aniesha's excellent bowling. Meghalaya then chased down the target for the loss of 4 wickets in 14.1 overs, with Mebalapynkmen Syiemlieh's 14 being the top-score.

The entire Meghalaya team wore black armbands to honour the memory of Mr Dister Marbaniang, who passed away last week. Marbaniang was President of the East Khasi Hills Cricket Association and had been Manager to many MCA teams.

Following a request by MCA President Mr. James P.K. Sangma, the MeECL has erected the transformer at the Indoor Cricket Academy, Kurkalang, in a record time of 12 days, which is now ready to be charged for use.

Today Mr. Sangma visited the site along with Chairman of the Cricket Advisory Sub-Committee Mr. Jason Lamare, for inspection and was happy with the progress.

The MCA would like to thank the MeECL as well as our Hon’ble CM Shri Conrad K. Sangma, who supported us consistently throughout this endeavour.

Meghalaya put the disappointment of losing their first match behind them as they rebounded with a 3-wicket victory against hosts Nagaland in Group A of the NECDC U-19 Men's One Day Tournament in Sovima today!

Meghalaya had lost to Manipur by 144 runs yesterday but came out hungry today and they began by winning the toss and choosing to field.

Mewankitbok Kharpuri was the star of the bowling department, with the leg-spinner taking a brilliant 5/33 in 10 overs. Benedict Jones Makdoh (2/31 in 8 overs), Gaurav Narleng (1/2 in 0.5) and Apandanka Marak (1/25 in 7) were the other wicket-takers as Nagaland were all out for 167 in 39.5 overs.

The chase was not smooth sailing as Meghalaya were 22/3 before Mewankitbok was joined out in the middle by Angkit Tamang. Together they put on 49 for the fourth wicket before Mewan was dismissed for 34 from 44 balls (4x4s, 2x6s).

Angkit fell around 10 overs later for 42 (67 balls, 4x4s) as Meghalaya got themselves closer to the target. Nagaland still had hope of a turnaround but Rudra Singh Rathore (34 not out from 27 balls, 4x4s, 1x6) ensured that he was present to see off the required runs for Meghalaya, which reached 170/7 in 29.4 overs.

For his performance with bat and ball, Mewan was justifiably declared Player of the Match.

Meghalaya secured a 6-wicket victory against Arunachal Pradesh in Group B of the NECDC Inter-State U-23 Women's T20 Tournament in Rangpo, Sikkim today.

Meghalaya lost their opener to hosts Sikkim yesterday by 67 runs and thus needed to win today to keep their hopes of progressing to the next round alive.

Arunachal won the toss and chose to bat but were restricted to 99/7 in their 20 overs. Their skipper Nabam Yakar top-scored with 21 while Cheanchi K Sangma took 3/14 in 4 overs, which was a crucial spell in keeping the Arunachal total low.

Monica Singh started with 22 for Meghalaya at the top of the order and, though the team lost a couple of wickets cheaply, Suriti Kumari Ray (36 not out) and Jayshree Singh (14) ensured that the result was never in doubt.

Suriti hit the winning run as Meghalaya reached 100/4 in 16.4 overs.

Cheanchi earned Player of the Match honours for her terrific bowling in the Arunachal innings.

Meanwhile, Meghalaya did not have the best of starts in the NECDC U-19 Men's One Day Tournament where they lost to Manipur by 144 runs in Dimapur. Meghalaya will face hosts Nagaland in their second Group A match tomorrow.

Both tournaments are organised by the North East Cricket Development Council. Past editions of the tournaments have been for senior players but this year the NECDC took the decision to make the two tournaments U-19 for men and U-23 for women to provide match opportunities for these age groups as exposure and number of BCCI tournaments is restricted when compared to senior category teams.

Our thanks to the Sikkim Cricket Association for the photographs from today's match

The MCA, following recommendations by its Cricket Advisory Sub-Committee, has named squads for the U-19 and U-23 NECDC tournaments, which will start next week.

While the U-19 men will be playing in Nagaland, the U-23 women will be in action in Sikkim.

The tournaments are organised by the North East Cricket Development Council and will run from 6 to 11 April.

Meghalaya won both the senior-level tournaments last year, so this is a chance for our youngsters to show what they are capable of!

Players are requested to report to the MCA Ground in Shillong on 2 April at 1:30pm for the start of the preparatory camp.
