PVC Parra has beaten Saligao Sporting 5-4 (1-1 full-time) on penalities to win the 19th edition of the Vagator Cup.

PVC Parra lifted the glittering Vagator Soccer Cup 2017, organised by Vagator PYSC, after registering a 6-5 win via tie-breaker over Saligao Sporting Club in the finals played at Vagator grounds, Ozran on Sunday.
The exciting final, locked 1-1 at the end of regulation time, was attended by a large Sunday crowd.
In the 16th minute of play Saligao opened when a rasping strike by Abhijit Govekar off a pass from Allan Gonsalves crashed into the back of the Parra nylons, 1-0.
However, just a minute before the breather a costly defensive lapse from Sporting saw Parra’s Rowell Pinto net the equaliser, 1-1.
On crossing over, it was some brilliant keeping by Parra custodian Ritesh Narvekar that denied Creig Menezes and Michael Dias from scoring.
As the scored read 1-1 at the end of regulation time, the result of the final had to be decided on penalty shootout where Parra scored through Floyd Pereira, Felix D’Souza, Rowell Pinto, Shubham Malvankar and Sanket Harmalkar while for Saligao Sporting Shivanand Naik, Videsh Satardekar, Creig Menezes and Jason Monteiro were on target.
Vinod Palyekar, Minister of Water Resources Development, was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of guests of honour Milton Marques, Manoj Mehani and special invitees Sadanand Verenkar, Vinod Phadke, Ramakant Shirodkar, Girish Raga and Dilip Borkar.
Winners PVC Parra pocketed cash prize of Rs 40,000 plus trophy while Saligao Sporting had to be content with Rs 30,000.
Following individual prizes were awarded: Best Goalkeeper: Ritesh Narvekar (Parra), Best Defender: Shivanand Naik (Saligao), Best Midfielder: Abhijet Govekar (Saligao), Best Striker: Rowell Pinto (Parra), Player of the Tournament: Sanket Harmalkar (Parra).
The gathering was welcomed by Marushka D’Souza and the vote of thanks was proposed by Jolan Albuquerque.
