Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty confirmed a medal at the 2025 World Championships.

The WR 9 pair beat 2022 World Championship gold medalist Malaysia's Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik (WR 2) 21-12, 21-19 in the quarterfinals.

Aaron-Soh have been a nemesis for Satwik-Chirag and had a head to head record of 11-3 before last night's match and even eliminated them at the Paris Olympics in the quarterfinals. But the Indians got better off them.

Two-time Olympic medallist javelin Neeraj Chopra finished runner-up in the Diamond League Finals. Julian Weber of Germany lifted his maiden trophy in Zurich on Thursday.

Neeraj's final effort of 85.01m took him to the second spot, overtaking Keshorn Walcott of Trinidad and Tobago who came third with 84.95m.

Weber achieved a season world leading throw of 91.51m, his personal best, in his second attempt. He began with 91.37m effort, and after that it was a one-man show in the seven-man field.

Remembering the legendary Dhyan Chand on his birthday.

Dhyan Chand was an integral part of the Indian hockey team that won three consecutive Olympic gold medals in 1928, 1932, and 1936, before Independence. He scored a brace in the 1928 final and a hat-trick in the 1936 final; contemporary records attribute him a tournament-leading 14 goals in 1928 and 11 in 1936. Across 12 Olympic matches, multiple sources list his tally at either 37 or 39 goals; a conservative, widely cited figure is 37, averaging approximately 3.08 goals per match.

Chand’s overall career goal count is often reported in popular accounts as 570 in 185 matches, though such figures stem from historical retellings rather than a single official ledger.

Chand’s birthday, 29 August, is celebrated as National Sports Day in India. The nation’s highest sporting honour is now the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award, renamed in August 2021.

Neeraj Chopra previously finished first in the 2022 Diamond League finals with a throw of 88.44m and second in the 2024 Diamond League finals with a throw of 89.49m
