As a Scrum Master, one thing I never skip is a casual 1-on-1 chat with every new team member.
I could let them figure things out on their own.
I could just add them to the stand-ups and move on.
But honestly — these conversations matter. A lot.
When someone new joins, I love to understand 👇
• What excites them about being part of this team
• What frustrated them in their last workplace
• How I can make their experience here better and more supportive
I also share my own journey, values, and what this team stands for.
And I make one thing very clear:
This is a safe space. Your voice matters here.
These simple chats help me:
✅ Support them from day one
✅ Build trust and real human connection
✅ Create a culture where people feel seen, not just assigned
But more than anything…
I do it because I genuinely enjoy connecting with people.
I’d be missing out if I didn’t take the time to know them as humans first.
Because Scrum isn’t just about sprints and events.
It’s about people. Always.
Every Scrum Master has their own way of building trust.
What’s one simple thing you do to make new members feel seen and heard?
