Baila Loca was formed in January 2014, and literally translates into 'dance crazy'. We believe that to dance well, one has to let go of all restraints and let the soul connect, with our partner and with the rhythm of the music. What drew us to dancing BACHATA and subsequently ZOUK, ROCK & ROLL, MERENGUE, and KIZOMBA was the 'almost addictive' release that dance gave us, the 'unstructured' structur
e, the playfulness and variety of music from all parts of the world, the many, many interpretations of the basic movements to make something new and beautiful. Every time we step on to the floor, we still feel like we're dancing for the first time...it brings us such happiness. BACHATA remains our first love, and the main dance style we teach here at Baila Loca. We focus a lot on teaching the fundamentals of the dance form, and working with that foundation to create many beautiful moves on the dance floor. Once you have mastered your fundamentals and learnt the 'technique', you can learn to execute any move you want, by combining and playing with the basics. At Baila Loca, we do not focus only on pre-set, choreographed moves, but encourage you to experiment and expand your dance horizon. In a 'partner dance', you don't just dance for and with yourself, but you dance 'along with' another human being.
‘Baila Loca’ is simply us, wanting to share our passion with anyone who wants to experience this freedom for themselves.

While some of you may know us, some may not. SHALINI SEN, Co-Founder & Lead Dance Instructor: “I was an advertising professional for over a decade and discovered dance by a crazy twist of fate, way back in 2007. From the day I stepped into my first dance class, nerves and all, I’ve not looked back. As I learnt a variety of dance styles and then started teaching dance, I found myself drawn irresistibly to Bachata and subsequently, Brazilian Zouk and Kizomba. As I like to put it, 'Bachata is my first love; Kizomba - my weakness; and Brazilian Zouk, my soulmate.' Trained in the US, I enjoy teaching dance, even as I continue my own training with my mentor and instructors in New York. I firmly believe that we continue to learn from everyone we meet - students, teachers, artists, fellow instructors and dancers.”
“Dance truly has no beginning or end, but is a continuous process, where there is no place for the ego of a master, but the humility of an ever-evolving learner.” - Shalini Sen

VISHAL RAJA, Co-Founder : “I am a traveler and an adventure sports lover. From a complete 'stand-in-the-corner non-dancer' turned ‘can't get me off the floor dancer’, my life was transformed by Bachata, which would explain why you may have seen me at a lot of Latin dance parties and festivals, both here and abroad. I have learnt Bachata from some inspiring instructors in India and Europe and have taken a workshop at the 'On The Wave' 2014 Riga Festival in Latvia, along with some of the best names in the social dance world.” Looking back, life sure has come full circle for me, hasn't it? :) "

There is never a guarantee that you will learn to dance, nor a guaranteed period within which to learn something in. The instructor will try his/her absolute best to teach you the techniques and the moves. But the final responsibility lies with you - attend classes regularly, learn with attention, listen to songs, educate yourself, motivate and practice by yourself, in and outside class, attend Latin socials. As the famous saying goes - 'one can take the horse to the water, but one can't make it drink (that water).'
C'mon now, Let's Dance :)
