Deepu Mallesh has delivered a stunning qualifying performance at the Asian Games 2026, Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, clocking:

More than climbing. It’s about what the climb builds in you.

At the Basic Rock Climbing Course in Badami, Keerthi Pais Secretary, Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF), reflects on why this iconic destination offers far more than an adventure sport experience.

Working in teams, opening new routes, placing anchors, learning technical skills and navigating challenges together, participants experienced the many dimensions of climbing while building something equally important: character, confidence and camaraderie.

Conducted by the Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF) in collaboration with My Bharath ,Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports , the course provided young climbers an opportunity to learn, contribute and grow within Badami’s unique climbing landscape.

As Keerthi Pais shares, he looks forward to being part of many more such groups, learning, climbing and growing together.

A new National Record. A moment to remember!

Indian speed climbing athlete Joga Purty clocked an impressive 7.28 seconds in the qualifying round at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games, Japan, setting a new National Record in the process.

The Indian Mountaineering Foundation congratulates Joga on this remarkable achievement and wishes her the very best for the journey ahead.

From a young climber with a dream to representing India on the Asian Games stage , Joga Purty’s journey is one of determination, support and belief.

Here, Joga shares her gratitude to the Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF)* and the Tata Steel Adventure Foundation (TSAF)* for being an integral part of her journey and for nurturing her talent from a young age.

As she heads to Aichi-Nagoya 2026, her goal remains simple and powerful: to give her best, represent India with pride, and make the nation proud.

From years of training and discipline to the biggest continental stage, Coach Bibhas Roy stands alongside Joga Purty and Deepu Mallesh, as they prepare to represent India in Sport Climbing at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.

Joga will compete in Women’s Speed, while Deepu will take on
Men’s Speed — carrying with them not just the colours of India, but the work, resilience and countless hours that brought them here.

Behind every split-second on the wall is a journey measured in years.
Now, that journey leads to Japan.

HIGH ALTITUDE EXPLORATORY TREK 2026 | NORTH EAST HIMALAYAS

The mountains have more to teach us than the art of ascent. They teach resilience, responsibility, leadership and the value of moving together.

The Indian Mountaineering Foundation, in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, invites Indian nationals to embark on a 10-day exploratory trek through the breathtaking landscapes of the North East Himalayas in Arunachal Pradesh.

📍 Route: Dirang – Jimthung – Sangti – Chander – Lagam – Pangma – Namsu – Dirang

📅 09–20 October 2026

This expedition is designed to build essential skills in trekking, navigation, campsite management, safety, emergency response, leadership and responsible mountain travel.

👥 Limited to 25 participants (+10 on reserve).

🎒 Alpha Grade in Basic Mountaineering Course required. Advanced course preferred.

📌 Registration closes on 30 September 2026 or when seats are filled.

DARJEELING CLIMBING CUP 2026 | A VISION FOR INDIA’S CLIMBING FUTURE

Darjeeling has shaped generations of mountaineers. Now, it sets its sights on shaping the future of sport climbing in India.

The Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI), Darjeeling, in collaboration with the Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF), presents the Darjeeling Climbing Cup 2026
—a national ranking event featuring Lead and Speed Climbing, scheduled from 4–6 November 2026.

Under the vision of Colonel Rajneesh, Principal, HMI Darjeeling, the initiative seeks to position Darjeeling as India’s sports climbing capital and strengthen HMI’s role as a pioneering centre of excellence for the sport.

This is more than a competition. It is a step towards building a stronger competitive climbing ecosystem, nurturing talent, and creating a platform where India’s climbers can aspire to greater heights.

The wall is ready. A new chapter in Indian sport climbing begins in Darjeeling.
