Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF) as an apex national body, has the objective of organising, supporting and providing a base for expeditions for mountaineering, skiing, rock climbing, trekking at high altitudes and to promote, encourage, support and execute schemes for related adventure activities and environmental protection work in the Himalaya. IMF co-ordinates climbing in the Indian Himal

aya, organises national and international conferences, training / environment-cleaning camps and climbing competitions. IMF is closely associated with the Ministries of Sports, Home, Defence, Tourism and Environment of the Government of India. Foreigners can climb mountain peaks in India after obtaining the required clearances. IMF was formed in 1957 as the `Sponsoring Committee of the Cho Oyu Expedition, the success of which on May 15, 1958, encouraged the Committee to sponsor more expeditions. In 1959, it changed its name to the `Sponsoring Committee of Everest Expedition and in the following year `Sponsoring Committee for Mountaineering Expeditions. Finally, on January 15, 1961 a permanent organization was set up, in its role as the national body, with headquarters in New Delhi and was registered as such on November 3, 1961.

Flagging off the Swachhata Trek to Kedarkantha with a shared commitment towards cleaner mountains and responsible trekking 🌿🏔️

Organised by Sulabh International Social Service Organisation and the Indian Mountaineering Foundation under the *Shikhar Se Sagar Tak* initiative, this 55 km expedition carries forward the message of cleanliness, sustainability, and environmental responsibility.

From 3K to 20K, the Trekathon at Mahendragiri Fest 2026 brought together everyone—from kids to seasoned trekkers—for a day that was as gruelling as it was unforgettable. Under the sun and across rugged trails, participants pushed limits, made new friends, and immersed themselves in the wild beauty of Odisha’s flora and fauna.

Not just a trek, but a shared journey of challenge, connection, and pure adventure. 🌿

Day 2 of Mahendragiri Eco Fest 2026 concluded on a high—blending adventure, culture, and community spirit.

A heartfelt felicitation ceremony honoured our valued local stakeholders and dedicated core team members, alongside a proud prize distribution celebrating passion and perseverance. The evening came alive with vibrant cultural performances by talented local artists, adding colour and energy to the closing moments.

In collaboration with the Odisha Tourism Department, this marked a memorable end to an inspiring journey.

A vibrant start, a powerful presence, and an unforgettable opening..

The inaugural ceremony of Mahendragiri Eco Adventure Fest 2026 came alive with a stellar gathering—graced by Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Odisha, Smt. Pravati Parida; in the presence of, Shri Kamadev Badanayak, Hon’ble Chairman, SDC, Gajapati; Shri Dasarathi Gamango, Hon’ble MLA, Mohana; Shri Rupesh Kumar Panigrahi, Hon’ble MLA, Paralakhemundi; Shri Balwant Singh, IAS, Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Department of Tourism; and Shri Keerthi Pais, Secretary, IMF.

From the ceremonial flag-off and the first climb, flagging of Mountain Biking Challenge, to vibrant cultural moments and the prize distribution, the day was a perfect melange of energy and celebration. The IMF was felicitated by the Hon’ble Deputy CM—marking a proud moment where passion, partnership, and hard work truly paid off.
