Choosing a cricket bat online feels confusing — but it really doesn’t have to be.
If you know a few simple things, you can pick a solid bat every single time, even without touching it.
1. Don’t pick a bat just by looking at the grains
Yes, grains matter — but they’re not the whole story.
A bat with fewer grains can easily outperform a “perfect-looking” one if the construction is solid and you knock it in properly.
2. Listen to the bat sound
Pay close attention to the sound.
If the bat sounds hollow, it may need extra knocking or might not perform well.
If the sound feels dull or “dead,” the bat may not be pressed correctly.
You want a crisp, clean sound.
3. Talk about the profile, not the weight
Dead weight means nothing without balance.
You’ve seen bats listed as 1130–1140 grams online… but once you receive them, they feel heavy.
That happens because the bat isn’t balanced correctly.
Choose the profile that suits your game — mid, low, duckbill, full — not what’s trending on the internet.
4. Don’t stress about marks on the willow
Specs, streaks, and butterfly stains are natural features of real wood.
They don’t reduce performance.
In many cases, they make the bat stronger and more stable.
And because they’re not “cosmetically perfect,” you get them at a better price.
5. Never ignore the handle
This is the most underrated part of a bat.
The handle affects shock absorption, pickup, shot timing, and overall control.
It can completely change the way your game feels.
At the end of the day, cricket is not a beauty contest.
Your bat doesn’t need to look flawless — it needs to perform.
