ഒരു ദേശത്തെ കായിക ലോകത്തേക്ക് കൈപിടിച്ചുയർത്തിയ കായികാധ്യാപകൻ, മികച്ച അധ്യാപകനുള്ള രാഷ്ട്രപതിയുടെ അവാർഡ് ജേതാവ്, തന്റെ കാലഘട്ടത്തിലെ സമർത്ഥനായ കളിക്കാരൻ, ദേശീയ തലത്തിൽ കേരളത്തെ പല തവണ പ്രതിനിധീകരിച്ച വോളീബോൾ താരം, സംഘാടകൻ, ദേശീയ റഫറി, മൂന്ന് തലമുറയെ പരിശീലിപ്പിച്ചു നിരവധി ദേശീയവും അന്തർ ദേശീയവുമായ വോളീബോൾ താരങ്ങളെ വാർത്തെടുത്ത പരിശീലകൻ, അങ്ങിനെ വോളിബാൾ രംഗത്തെ സമഗ്ര മേഖലകളിലും മികവിന്റെ കയ്യൊപ്പ് പതിപ്പിച്ച ഒരാൾ... അതാണ് അച്ചു മാഷ് ... അച്ചുമാഷുടെ കായിക ജീവിതത്തിലെ ചില പ്രധാന നാഴികക്കല്ലുകളിലൂടെ ....

നടുവണ്ണൂർ Recreation ക്ലബ് ( NRC )

കോഴിക്കോട് ജില്ലാ വോളീബോൾ അസോസിയേഷൻ 1968 ൽ ആണ് രൂപീകൃതമാവുന്നത്. . ജില്ലാ വോളീബോൾ അസോസിയേഷൻ സംഘടിപ്പിച്ച ക്ലബ് വോളീബോൾ ടൂർണമെന്റിൽ പങ്കെടുക്കുക എന്ന ലക്ഷ്യത്തോടെ ആണ് 1968 ൽ NRC സ്ഥാപിച്ചത്. ആദ്യ പ്രസിഡന്റ് ഇ നാരായണൻ മാസ്റ്റർ , സെക്രട്ടറി സി രാഘവൻ മാസ്റ്റർ എന്നിവർ ആയിരുന്നു. ആദ്യകാല കളിക്കാർ

1968 മുതൽ തുടർച്ചടിയായി 3 വര്ഷം NRC കോഴിക്കോട് ജില്ലാ ചാമ്പ്യന്മാരായിരുന്നു.

ആ കാലത്തെ കേരളത്തിലെ പ്രഗത്ഭരായ പല കളിക്കാരും NRC ക്കു വേണ്ടി അതിഥി താരങ്ങളായി കളിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട് . ജിമ്മി ജോർജ് (അർജുന അവാർഡ് ജേതാവ്, നാഷണൽ പ്ലയെർ ), ജോസ് ജോർജ് , തൊടുപുഴ ജോസ് ( FACT പ്ലയെർ) , എംകെ മാന്വൽ ( ഇന്ത്യൻ പ്ലയെർ ), AC ജോസ്, രവീന്ദ്രൻ നായർ ( മണി സർ - Services പ്ലയെർ ), ബാലൻ നമ്പ്യാർ ( കേരള പോലീസ് CI ), മട്ടന്നൂർ നാരായണൻ, ഞാറലോട്ട് രവീന്ദ്രൻ, മിക് ദാദ് തുടങ്ങിയവർ. കൂടാതെ ആ കാലത്തെ പ്രഗത്ഭരായ പല ഇന്ത്യൻ കളിക്കാരും NRC ക്കു വേണ്ടി CK നായർ ടൂർണമെന്റിൽ കളിച്ചിരുന്നു ( Nippi , Billoo , രമണ റാവു , രൺവീർ സിംഗ് , റിയാസ് അഹമ്മദ് തുടങ്ങിയവർ )

NRC യുടെ കളിക്കാരായി 1980 മുതൽ ഉയർന്നു വന്നവരാണ് MP രവീന്ദ്രൻ (ഷിപ്യാർഡ്), മനോജ് കുമാർ , ബാലകൃഷ്ണൻ , സുധാകരൻ , നടുക്കണ്ടി ബാബു , അശോകൻ കോട്ടപ്പുറത്, ദാസൻ തുടങ്ങിയവർ ..

NRC യുടെ കോ-ഓർഡിനേഷൻ വർക്കുകൾ ചെയ്തിരുന്നത് നടുവണ്ണൂരിലെ ജനകീയനായ കണ്ണച്ചു കണ്ടി കുഞ്ഞികൃഷ്ണൻ നായർ ആയിരുന്നു. ഫോണും ഇൻറെർനെറ്റും ഇല്ലാതിരുന്ന ആ കാലത്തു കത്തുകളിലൂടെയായിരുന്നു പ്രധാനമായും ആശയ വിനിമയം. കുഞ്ഞികൃഷ്ണൻ നായർ ആയിരുന്നു പ്രധാനമായും ആ കാര്യങ്ങൾ കൈകാര്യം ചെയ്തിരുന്നത്.

നടുവണ്ണൂർ UP സ്കൂൾ - PE Teacher

1965 ൽ ആണ് അച്ചു മാഷ് നടുവണ്ണൂർ UP സ്കൂളിൽ PE ടീച്ചർ ആയി നിയമിതനായത് . അന്നത്തെ ആദ്യ ബാച്ചിൽ പെട്ടവരാണ് എംകെ പരീത് മാസ്റ്റർ , CP രവീന്ദ്രൻ , തയ്യുള്ളതിൽ കാദർ കുട്ടി ,Pottol അമ്മദ് മാസ്റ്റർ , PK മുഹമ്മദ് അലി ,ഹസ്സൻ കോയ ,കോയമ്പറത് അമ്മദ് കുട്ടി, കോയമ്പറത് അബ്ദു സലാം തുടങ്ങിയവർ. ആ കാലഘട്ടത്തിൽ നടുവണ്ണൂർ UP സ്കൂൾ തുടർച്ചയായി Revenue District ചാമ്പ്യന്മാരായിരുന്നു..

Achu Mash has become a national referee in 1980 and officiated several tournaments. He held several positions in the volleyball referees association. He was a referee for several major tournaments in India including1995 Federation Cup finals held in Mumbai.

The first qualified referee from Naduvannur was C Raghavan Nair ( State referee) and the first National Referee was Achu Mash (1980). Achu Mash inspired and mentored a several others from Naduvannur to become volleyball referees and at one point Naduvannur was called as the volleyball referee village. Prominent national referees from Naduvannur were MK Pareeth, NV Kunjiraman, O Balan, M Basheer, Dasan, Balaraman, Satyan etc.

Achumash was born in 1942 in Thiruvode, a small villege in Kozhikode District. His father was Edoth Kunjikrishnan Nair and mother was Laskshmi Amma. His brothers were all into sports. Elder brother Edoth Narayanan Master was a noted volleyball player in Malabar. E Padmanabhan Master who retired as the head master of GHS Naduvannur was also a good volleyball player. His younger brother Sankaran Nair was a football player and retired as a physical education teacher.

Achu Mash is married to Ammukutty Amma who was also an athlete during her school days. Achu Mash has two sons and a daughter. His daughter Beena Lal was national volleyball player and represented Kerala and Tamilnadu, as well as Calicut University and Madras University. His sons are Babu Lal and Bimal Lal. AchuMash's grand daughter Jayalakshmi is an emerging player.

There are several other volleyball players from his extended family. His niece Binisha and Sanila were Calicut university players and another nice Sarika has represented Kerala state team.
