THAPA HAS DONE IT. HISTORY REPEATS ITSELF. đŽđŗ
In 1982, during the Nehru Cup, Uruguay faced India for the first time. India lost 3â1, but Manas Bhattacharya, a Mohun Bagan player, created history by scoring Indiaâs first-ever goal against a World Cup-winning nation.
Today, almost four decades later, Anirudh Thapa has done it again. đŽđŗ
The scoreline says India 1â6 Uruguay. A tough and painful result, no doubt. But against a side ranked more than 100 places above India, there were signs of courage â a high line, playing out from the back, trying to keep possession, taking on opponents 1v1 and refusing to simply sit deep.
And what an incredible coincidence â both Manas Bhattacharya and Anirudh Thapa were playing for Mohun Bagan when they scored against Uruguay. đâ¤ī¸
The National Club tag was never given without reason.
The result hurts, but Thapa has written his name into history. A small moment of hope, a spark for Indian football. đŽđŗ
