In Goju-ryu, Kakie uke is not merely a block — it is living connection. In the tradition of Chojun Miyagi, we say: “Do not fight the force. Receive it, guide it, return it.”
Kakie uke, the revolving open-hand block, is born from sticky-hands training. When your opponent strikes, you do not clash hard against hard. You soften the arm, rotate from the center, and let the attack slide across your forearm like water flowing around a rock. This circular motion controls the opponent’s balance while protecting your own centerline.
The hand remains open to feel intent — tension, direction, weakness. From this rotation, you can trap, off-balance, strike to the ribs, neck, or execute a takedown.
Remember: Kakie uke is sensitivity, control, and immediate counter — harmony turning into decisive action.
