Remembering Madhav Mantri on his birth anniversary🙏

A wicket-keeper batsman who represented India in 4 Tests and captained Bombay to three Ranji Trophy titles — in 1951-52, 1955-56, and 1956-57 — Mantri was a cornerstone of the dominant Bombay side of that era.

He later served as a Test selector and President of the Mumbai Cricket Association, giving back to the game long after his playing days.

A legend, fondly remembered.

On 31st August 2017, Shardul Thakur pulled on the India jersey for the very first time in ODIs, making his debut against Sri Lanka at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

Handed cap No. 218, he marked the occasion with tidy figures of 1/26 from his 7 overs — the first step in a journey that would earn him the affectionate title of 'Lord Shardul.'

From the early-morning local trains out of Palghar to the international stage, his story is proof that hard work always finds its reward 🇮🇳

For many years, the gates of Wankhede Stadium have carried the names of cricket's greatest. Now, one of them belongs to a woman.

MCA named Gate No. 5 the Diana Edulji Gate in April 2026 honouring Diana Eduji, a former India captain, a spin legend, and the first Indian woman in the ICC Hall of Fame.

Across 54 internationals, her left-arm spin claimed 109 wickets, and long after she stopped playing, she kept fighting for the women's game as an administrator, working to win Indian women cricketers better facilities and recognition.

But this initiative is about more than one name. It's a reminder of where MCA is taking women's cricket.

Uplifting women's cricket. Uplifting her.

In September 2025, MCA inaugurated the Women Captains' Wall and the Women Captains Board at the Sharad Pawar Indoor Cricket Academy And Recreation Center in BKC as tribute to the ones who led, and an inspiration for every young girl who sees just how far the game can take her.

“This special wall is more than a tribute - it celebrates the leaders who have shaped Mumbai's women's cricket. We hope it stands as a symbol of pride and inspires the next generation to dream bigger and achieve greater heights for the city and the country,” shares Mr. Abhay Hadap, Former MCA Secretary.

On 27th August, the MCA Apex Council approved the establishment of the Ajinkya Rahane Scholarship Fund, in recognition of Ajinkya Rahane's distinguished journey from Mumbai's maidans to captaining India's Test team.

Backed by a generous contribution from Hon'ble Sharad Pawar Saheb, the Fund will support grassroots cricketers and the development of Maidan cricket across the city.

"Ajinkya Rahane's journey from Mumbai's grassroots cricket to becoming captain of the Indian team is an inspiration for every young cricketer. We hope this initiative will provide young players with greater opportunities to pursue their dreams and strengthen the proud cricketing culture of Mumbai," said MCA President Ajinkya Naik.
