*BODYBUILDING AND THE DEATH OF YOUNG ATHLETES: Is A Trophy Worth Your Life?*
Another obituary. Another young athlete, 26, 28, 32 years old. Heart attack in his sleep. Kidney failure. Cardiac arrest on stage. We put a RIP story on Instagram, argue for 2 days in comments, and then we go back to the same cycle. When will we actually learn?
# # # 1. The 80s-90s Era: Less Had More
There were no AC gyms with imported machines. No InBody scans. No online coaches selling Rs. 15,000 custom diet plans. No isolate, no hydrolysate, no pre-workout that makes your head blast.
The supplements were - milk, eggs, banana, peanuts, and maybe a dabba of so-called protein. The drugs? Basic. Deca, Dianabol, maybe Testosterone. That was it.
And yet - look at their photos. Prakash Koyande in his early years, Premchand Dogra. Grainy photos, but dense, mature, aesthetic muscle. Wide backs, small waists. Bodies that still looked human.
They had patience. They ate home food for 5-6 years before they even thought of competing. Bodybuilding was a part of life, not entire life.
# # # 2. The Current Era: Everything Available, Nothing Achieved
Today you have it all.
High-tech gyms with hammer machines for every angle, exercise science on YouTube, macro-calculated diets, EAA, Creatine, Mass Gainer, Fat Burners, and a medicine list that even doctors have never heard of - SARMs, peptides, insulin, diuretics, DNP, Trenbolone, and God knows what research chemicals being sold in black market.
Results are unbelievable - 20kg muscle in 16 weeks. But at what cost?
The physique on Instagram looks amazing for 30 seconds, but inside - BP is 160/100, kidneys are leaking protein, liver enzymes are 5x high, heart is thickened like a 60-year-old man. We have built a generation of sick athletes who look healthy from outside.
# # # 3. Sport Is Not Worth Your Life
Look around. The so-called "old school" athletes are still alive. They are 50, 60, 70 years old. Still training, still in good shape, still guiding youngsters.
And the new crop? Dying at 30.
That itself should tell you the whole story. Old school built health first, then physique. New school is building physique by destroying health.
