It is the beginning of a larger movement to bring chess into classrooms across India!
A vision that began inside classrooms has now grown into a movement.
What started as Chess in Classrooms through the pioneering work of Praful Zaveri Sir has crossed city boundaries, taking structured chess education beyond Mumbai and inspiring schools across India to embrace chess as an essential part of learning.
Greenwood High International School, Bengaluru, adopted 1,000 copies of our books for students from Grade 1 to Grade 4, where chess is a compulsory subject. Even more inspiring is that chess education begins right from Nursery and continues until Grade 12. This reflects the school’s strong belief that cognitive development, critical thinking, concentration, and life skills should be nurtured from the earliest years while complementing academic excellence.
It was an immensely proud moment as Praful Zaveri Sir was invited to the school in recognition of his contribution through these books. Sir interacted with the young learners, introduced them to the fundamentals of chess, organised an International Chess Day tournament, and inspired hundreds of children to embrace the game with curiosity and confidence.
A heartfelt thank you to Somnath Sir and Lakshmi Ma’am, who have been instrumental in leading the Chess in Schools programme at Greenwood High.
Their dedication, vision, and warm hospitality made this journey truly memorable.
Watching the excitement on the faces of the children as they learnt from Sir was priceless. The highlight of the day was seeing Praful Zaveri Sir personally sign nearly 400 plus books for the students. Every autograph became a memory that the children will cherish for years to come.
From the Principal to the teachers, everyone appreciated Sir’s relentless efforts and his vision of making chess an integral part of education. The trainers, too, left, carrying forward the same passion and purpose.
