Congratulations to all the finishers and participants of The WindChasers Nilgiris Ultra 2017! Our participants and volunteers, both almost doubled this year with a total of 107 participants! Makes us feel like we're doing something right.
13K - 12 participants -
26k - 67 participants
52K- 24 participants (1 DNF)
70K - 4 participants.
Out of these, 15 participants belonged to the Irula tribe. The WindChasers encourages and supports the Irulas to participate in our marathon and explore their natural athleticism.
This race course is not easy by any means. The consistent rolling hills and altitude make it very challenging and yet, all but one of our participants finished.( If you are traitning for the Comrades, our participants tell us that this is the perfect course to prepare for it)
Races that really challenge and push ones limits, tend to break one down to their very core and bring out their real selves. It was truly inspiring to learn about each one of our participants and watch them push their limits with huge smiles and gratitude in their hearts. Thank you for that. Such a great reminder for why we do this in the first place.
It was heartwarming to see how many local volunteers showed up to work selflessly and tirelessly so our participants could have all the support they need and to support our charity affiliation with special needs children and pediatric cancer. We are deeply indebted and grateful to each one of them for working with such dedication and with no expectation. Some of the rarest gems we've come to find.
There were so many that it's hard to name each one of them in one post, but we hope we've been able to convey in person, how much this means to us.
Big shout out to Hariharan Balakrishnampatti Ramalingam who finished his 100th bibbed marathon at our race, and to his amazing friends/fanclub and well-wishers who ran in support of him! At 68, he was also our oldest participant. What a star!
Thank you Sunita for organising and facilitating all this with the amazing Hyderabad Runners group.
Big shout out to our youngest participant Tanvi Tummalapalli who at age 13, ran her first 13K and finished strong! Certainly a future athlete to look out for.
Special thanks to SP Murali Ramba and the Ooty Nilgiris Police for all the security provided during the event so our runners could feel safe and run free.
Special Thanks to Fortune Sullivan Court Ooty for their generosity and sponsoring our Race briefing venue.
Special thanks to Nitesh Square Photography!
Nitesh made so many photos! Please give him a few days to edit these. Once done, we will send you a dropbox link and also upload them here.
Lastly but not least, please accept our apologies for any shortcomings. We strive to get better with every passing race.
Please keep an eye out here for more updates with finish times and other information to come very soon!
