At the Nordic Youth Championship in Iceland in 2001, a 14-year-old Magnus Carlsen faced Erik Blomqvist. The rating gap was enormous, but what followed was even more remarkable.

The game began as a familiar Ruy Lopez, with both sides developing naturally.

1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bb5 a6 4. Ba4 Nf6 5. O-O b5 6. Bb3 d6

Then Magnus opened the center:

⚔️ 7. Re1 Na5 8. d4!

Black captured on d4, but Magnus immediately struck back:

9. e5!

The position suddenly became tactical chaos.

After 9...dxe5 10. Nxe5 Be7, Magnus found the first spectacular blow:

The knight jumps into f7, attacking the rook on h8 and forcing Black into an awkward defensive sequence.

And Magnus keeps checking.

But the attack is far from over.

Black desperately tries 19...Nxc2, hoping to create counterplay.

Magnus simply keeps the king trapped:

In Amsterdam 2010, Hikaru Nakamura unleashed one of those attacks that looks almost impossible to stop once it begins.

Facing Loek van Wely, Nakamura entered a sharp Sicilian Defense. Black grabbed a pawn early with 8...Qxb2, but that hungry queen would soon become a spectator to something far more dangerous. 😈♟️

After 11.e5!, the position suddenly exploded. Nakamura pushed forward with tempo, forcing Black's pieces into increasingly awkward positions.

Then came the incredible knight journey:

13.Nd5 → 14.Nb3 → 15.Na5 → 16.Nxb7!

Every move seemed to tighten the net around the black king. 🔥

And then Nakamura played the move that made the whole combination work:

The game began with a Petrov Defense, but it quickly became anything but quiet.

After the early exchanges, Pranesh started building pressure with Re1, c4 and Qb3, grabbing space and putting Black under increasing pressure. ⚔️

Then came the first tactical warning sign:

16. Re3!

Pranesh boldly brought the rook into the attack, and Black's bishop eventually captured it:

17. Nxe4! Bxe3 18. Nf6+!

🔥 Suddenly, the position exploded.

Pranesh sacrificed material to rip open Black's kingside. After 18...gxf6 19.Bxe3, White had transformed the position into a dangerous attacking battle.

Black tried to fight back with ...Re4, but Pranesh calmly eliminated the rook:

20. Bxe4! dxe4 21. Qxe4

The dust settled—and White emerged with a dangerous initiative.

But Pranesh wasn't finished.
