Life long experience of boys from Siliguri on their North Sikkim expedition 🚵♂️
This expedition was organised by Indian Army for our 75th Independence Day as Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. We did 14days of acclamatisation for conquering Gurudongmar Lake and above, stage 1 was at Chatan(9,000ft), North Sikkim. Stayed their for 6days then went to the 2nd stage at Thangu (12,000ft) and acclamatised there for 4days and moved to stage 3 to Gyagong (15,000ft) the toughest stage. We had our medicals tested every single day in our whole expedition & those who were failing was being send back to the previous stage. After working on our endurance for all these days everything finally paid off.
We started from Gayagong (the last check point to the Lake) , cycled up to Gurudongmar Lake(17,800ft). It was one of my dream come true, visiting my dream place for the first time on a bicycle. The magestic view of the Lake filled our eyes with tears, no matter how much we saw it wasn't enough.
Then we continued cycling towards the Tso Lhamo (20,300ft) world's one of the highest lake.
The route we went through, it connects Lachen & Lachung valley via Dongkha La Pass. From Gyagong we cycled up to Dongkha La base camp & from there we loaded our bikes in trucks & went to Dongkha La top (18,300ft). That route is not opened for Civilians and specially cleared by the Indian Army for this expedition. We were escorted by the Army Convoy the whole route. It was a life time experience to witness & never really thought that it will come true so soon.
Thanks to ADGPI - Indian Army for this wonderful opportunity. I'm lucky & honoured to be a apart of it.
