The pistol shrimp creates a bubble so fast it reaches the temperature of the sun’s surface for a split moment. By snapping its claw at incredible speed, it fires a cavitation bubble that collapses with enough force to stun or kill its prey instantly. The shockwave is so loud it has been recorded overpowering submarine equipment. What looks like a tiny harmless shrimp is actually carrying one of the most powerful biological weapons in the ocean. Some species even form symbiotic relationships with gobies, sharing burrows and communicating through antenna taps like underwater roommates.
