Former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Kamran Akmal launched a strong two-minute rant after Pakistan lost the three-match ODI series to Bangladesh by 2-1. The Shaheen Shah Afridi-led team fell short by 11 runs in the deciding match in Dhaka on Sunday. Bangladesh won the series after restricting Pakistan despite a century from Salman Ali Agha. The young players could not step up, and key stars like Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman were rested due to injuries from the T20 World Cup.

In his angry reaction on the 'Game Plan' show, Akmal said Pakistan's cricket has fallen to very low levels. He warned that even the Netherlands might think they can beat Pakistan and earn Test status by playing a series against them.

He said: “For god's sake, think about Pakistan cricket. Just see the levels we have gone down to. The Netherlands must be thinking that if they get to play a three-match ODI series against Pakistan, they can attain Test status, as they can also beat us. You have made a mockery of your cricket. You people just don't care.”

Akmal questioned the team's decisions in the decider. He asked why Pakistan chose to bowl first on a good pitch instead of batting. He pointed out that Bangladesh scored 290 only because Litton Das slowed down at the end; otherwise, they could have made 350.

He added: “You have lost the match. What experiments are you doing? It was a good pitch. Why did you choose to bowl? Why didn't you bat? They would have scored 350. Litton Das was slow in the end, that's why Bangladesh got restricted to 290. It was a series decider. When you do not win the series against teams, how will you progress? ICC trophy chori karke leke aani hai? (You plan to steal the ICC trophies?)”

Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has said that the strong backlash against Sunrisers Leeds for signing Pakistan spinner Abrar Ahmed in The Hundred auction is understandable. The team, co-owned by Kavya Maran, bought Abrar for £190,000 (about ₹2.3 crore). But this decision led to a lot of anger on social media, with people asking why an Indian-owned team picked a Pakistani player, especially after events like the Pahalgam terror attack last year.

Gavaskar wrote in his column for Mid-day that such reactions are expected because of the difficult history between India and Pakistan. He reminded everyone that Pakistani players were kept out of the IPL after the 2008 Mumbai attacks. Then, the 2019 Pulwama attack made things even worse. Now, with the Pahalgam attack, people feel that paying money to a Pakistani player helps their government, which buys weapons and causes harm to Indians.

He explained: “The realisation that the fees that they pay to a Pakistani player, who then pays income tax to his government which buys arms and weapons, indirectly contributes to the deaths of Indian soldiers and civilians is making Indian entities refrain from even considering having Pakistani artistes and sportspersons.”

Gavaskar pointed out that even if the payment comes through an overseas team, if the owner is Indian, it still feels like contributing to Indian losses. He said:

“Whether it is an Indian entity or an overseas subsidiary of the entity that is making the payment, if the owner is Indian, then he or she is contributing to the Indian casualties. It’s as simple as that.”

He was most upset about the team's insensitivity. Coach Daniel Vettori (from New Zealand) wanted Pakistani players like Abrar and even Usman Tariq, but Gavaskar felt the Indian owner should have stopped it. He asked: “Is winning a tournament in a format that no other country plays in much more important than Indian lives?”

The IPL 2026 auction made headlines when Australian all-rounder Cameron Green became the most expensive buy, joining the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for a massive ₹25.20 crore. While the price tag is record-breaking, Green will actually receive ₹18 crore due to the BCCI’s new salary cap rules for overseas players. Despite the excitement surrounding his arrival at Eden Gardens, former RCB coach Sanjay Bangar has raised some thought-provoking points about how Green actually fits into the KKR squad.

Bangar believes that Green’s biggest impact won’t necessarily be with the bat, but rather with the ball. He pointed out that while Green is a talented player, he hasn't quite reached his full potential in the T20 format yet. During a discussion on Star Sports, Bangar explained the tactical challenge of placing Green in the batting lineup, noting:

"He has not produced his best in T20 cricket yet. And he cannot play a role in the lower order because of the kind of player he is. Many other teams like MI and RCB have tried it, but he did not fit there. So, he will have to bat in the top order."

The core of Bangar's argument is that KKR’s bowling attack benefits the most from this signing. He suggests that Green can step into the shoes of a legendary KKR figure when it comes to his bowling duties. Bangar added:
"Green can do the job that Andre Russell did with the ball very well. Green's inclusion has made KKR's bowling stronger, not their batting."

Looking at the statistics, Green’s IPL career so far is a mixed bag of brilliance and steady progress. In his 29 matches, he has scored 707 runs with an impressive average of 41.58 and a strike rate of 153.69, including a century. On the bowling side, he has taken 16 wickets, though his economy rate stays slightly high at 9.07.

As KKR prepares for the 2026 season, the big question remains: will Green flourish as a top-order explosive batter, or will he become the pace-bowling spearhead that Bangar predicts?

Former Indian captain Rohit Sharma is incredibly proud of the recent success seen in Indian cricket. Speaking at an event for the T20 Mumbai League, Rohit highlighted how both the men’s and women’s teams have established a winning habit on the global stage. This golden run started in 2024 when Rohit led the men’s team to a T20 World Cup victory. Since then, the success has only grown, with the women’s team winning their first-ever ODI World Cup in 2025 and the U-19 teams securing multiple trophies. Most recently, the senior men's team under Suryakumar Yadav made history by winning their third T20 World Cup title.
Rohit expressed his joy regarding these achievements, specifically mentioning how special it was to see the women’s team succeed at home. He stated:

“To come out with flying colours and achieve what we have achieved, not just the men's team but also the women's team winning that World Cup in (Navi) Mumbai was fantastic to watch.”

The legendary opener believes that these victories are just the beginning of a long era of dominance. He emphasized that winning becomes easier once a team has "momentum" and confidence. Reflecting on the recent performance of the senior men's side, he said:

“Recently, the men's team, what they did was phenomenal. I hope this is just the start, there is no looking back from here because once you get that momentum... we often talk about momentum and now both the men's and women's teams have that momentum.”

Finally, Rohit reminded everyone that these trophies are the result of years of silent struggle and dedication. He credited the support staff and the players for their tireless efforts. He concluded by saying:

“There is no secret to success, it's all about hard work. The men's and women's team have worked really hard to achieve what they have achieved today.”

The world of West Indies cricket is currently facing a massive internal storm following a series of blunt and "blistering" critiques from Wilford “Billy” Heaven, the former director of Cricket West Indies (CWI). Speaking on the Mason and Guest radio program, Heaven didn't hold back, demanding a total overhaul of the leadership team to save the future of regional cricket

At the heart of the controversy is Darren Sammy, the legendary captain who brought two T20 World Cup trophies to the Caribbean but is now facing intense pressure as a coach. Heaven openly questioned Sammy’s credentials and expressed his disbelief over the initial hiring. He stated clearly:

“I think Darren Sammy should reconsider his position as coach... I was shocked when he got the job, as he is unqualified.”

Heaven’s frustration stems from the West Indies' recent performance on the global stage. While the team started strong, they struggled to maintain momentum when the stakes got higher. Heaven noted that

“when the tournament reached the most competitive phase, the team was unable to sustain the required challenge,” leading him to conclude that a change in coaching staff is necessary for the team to compete with the world's best.

The criticism didn't stop at the dugout; it went straight to the boardroom. Heaven called for the resignation of CWI President Dr. Kishore Shallow. The core of the issue is Dr. Shallow’s dual role as a government minister in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines while also leading the regional cricket board. Heaven believes this creates a clear conflict of interest that hinders the progress of the sport.
“Dr Shallow needs to resign,” Heaven insisted.

To prove his point, Heaven highlighted the example of Gregory Nicholls, who recently stepped down from his role at the Barbados Cricket Association after taking a government position. Heaven praised this move as the "correct example" of keeping politics and sports administration separate, suggesting that Dr. Shallow should follow the same path to maintain the integrity of the regional board.

Former India batter Cheteshwar Pujara has shared his view on one of the most destructive opening pairs in IPL history. While many fans and experts point to Virat Kohli and Chris Gayle of Royal Challengers Bengaluru as the top pair, Pujara believes Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head of Sunrisers Hyderabad are even more dangerous.

Speaking on JioHotstar's show, Pujara said: “In the last couple of seasons, what we have seen from the openers of Sunrisers Hyderabad, Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head, I can certainly say they are one of the most destructive opening pairs in IPL history. Both are batters who know how to attack from ball one. SRH has consistently crossed the 250-run mark in the last couple of seasons thanks to them. No other team in the IPL has done that consistently.”

He added more praise: “When we talk about aggressive opening pairs in the IPL, the pair of Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli comes to mind. But this duo of Head and Abhishek is even more destructive. No bowler wants to run in and bowl against an opening pair like Abhishek and Head.”

This powerful pair helped SRH reach the IPL 2024 final with their explosive starts.

Mohammad Amir, the former Pakistan fast bowler, has sparked a big discussion among cricket fans with his recent comments on Pakistan's batting issues.
In a short video that went viral on social media, Amir urged the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to bring in players who can give stability to the batting line-up, just like India's Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli do for their team. He praised these two Indian stars for their consistent run-scoring habit and steady performance in big matches.

Pakistan had a disappointing run in the T20 World Cup 2026, where they got knocked out in the Super 8 stage and failed to reach the semi-finals. This led to a lot of criticism for the team and the board.
Amir, who was active as a cricket expert during the tournament and often spoke against India earlier, now seems to suggest that Pakistan should learn from the BCCI's approach of building around reliable players.
He was very clear in his statement:

“We do not need a player like Abhishek Sharma, who is not consistent. In 10-12 matches, he can score well in 2-3 matches, so we don’t need players like Abhishek Sharma. We saw his struggles in the T20 World Cup 2026. We need players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli who are capable of batting with consistency,” Mohammad Amir said.

Amir highlighted that while explosive players like Abhishek Sharma can shine in some games, Pakistan needs batters who perform steadily over many matches to succeed in big tournaments.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan team is currently playing a 3-match ODI series in Bangladesh. After the first two games, the series is tied at 1-1, and the third match will decide the winner.

India's opening batter Sanju Samson recently shared his emotional struggles during the early part of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 at the India Today Conclave. He spoke openly about feeling broken when he was not in the playing XI for the initial matches, even though his big dream was to win the World Cup with India.

Samson said he isolated himself for 5-6 days to rebuild his confidence and prepare mentally. He explained, “I was too desperate knowing that my dream is so near. But was the team still trying some combinations? So, is Sanju there or not there? So, that kind of feeling played in my mind at that time."

He added, “I was absolutely broken because my dream was to win the World Cup and I am not even in the XI. So, actually I was gone away for 5-6 days and I started rebuilding myself. Started preparing myself knowing you never know what the game want to give back to you.”

Samson also mentioned he was not comfortable competing for a spot in the team during the New Zealand series in January. He said, “I am the type of a person who do much better for others than doing things better for myself. In that series (against NZ), I was competing with my own people (for a place in the team) and I was not very comfortable with it.”

Despite starting on the bench, Samson made a stunning comeback. He played in five innings and scored 321 runs at an amazing strike rate of 199.38, earning him the Player of the Tournament award. His key knocks included an unbeaten 97 against West Indies at Eden Gardens, 89 against England at Wankhede Stadium in the semi-final, and another 89 against New Zealand in the final. These match-winning innings helped India lift the T20 World Cup trophy.

Former Team India spinner Harbhajan Singh believes that mystery bowler Varun Chakravarthy needs to go back to the basics after a mixed performance in the T20 World Cup 2026.

Varun took 9 wickets in the group-stage games against teams like USA, Namibia, Pakistan, and the Netherlands. But he had a tough time in the Super 8 stage, where South Africa, Zimbabwe, and West Indies played him well. In the full tournament, he finished with 14 wickets but at a high economy rate of 9.26, meaning he gave away too many runs.

Harbhajan spoke to the Times of India and shared his thoughts. He said he spotted Varun's talent early on. “First things first, he is a champion bowler. I first saw him at the Chennai Super Kings nets in 2018 where he was a practice bowler. I told the CSK management to pick him straight away — which they didn’t — because even then he was often unplayable in the nets,”
Harbhajan told TOI.

He explained what went wrong in the World Cup. “Normally, Varun gets batters out for fun when they try shots off the back foot. But in this World Cup he has gone for runs and that might be because he erred slightly in length,” he added.

Harbhajan dismissed the idea that batters have fully figured out Varun's variations. He gave the example of fast bowler Dale Steyn. “In modern-day cricket there are no mysteries. When it comes to top players, people often know what the next ball will be. Everyone knew Dale Steyn’s best delivery was the outswinger, but did that make him easy to face? It’s a battle of ex*****on between the batter and the bowler. If the bowler gets it right, he will be successful,” Harbhajan opined.

Harbhajan still has full faith in Varun and backed him to come back strong in the upcoming IPL 2026 season. He sees this as just a small setback for a talented bowler who can bounce back with better ex*****on.
