At 3826 meters high, right in the border or India and Mayanmar, stands the highest peak in Nagaland - the majestic Mt. Saramati.
The wide open space at the summit ensures breathtaking views of the mighty Chindwin river in erstwhile Burma towards the East and the captivating Japfu mountain range towards the West. .
Thanamir is the closest village to the peak occupied by the Yimchunger Naga tribe. The locals of the village serve as a guides and porters for the trek which takes over 10-11 hours for moderate level trekkers.
The trek begins from the village to base camp which takes bout 6-7 hours. Trekkers rest for the night at the base camp relishing the beauty of indescribable sunset overlooking Mt. Japfü-the second highest peak in Nagaland. For best view, the trekkers move out early morning at 3 am to make it to the summit to welcome the sunrise from Mayanmar over the Chindwin river. .
Its a must climb for tourist as you would travel the entire breadth of the state if you start from Dimapur. .
For Naga trekking enthusiast, this is one bucket-list you need to tick off. .
